Rakitic is not average. Jesus Christ! The guy has one lackluster year and people here are already burying him. Rakitic is better than the majority of midfielders available on the market. Rakitic is average. He's been average at best since the treble season ended and has only gotten worse now that his main role (Covering for Alves) is no longer needed. He's not a great dribbler, he's not anything special in the passing department, his defensive contribution is negligible at this point, and he can't run for the entire game. There may not be anything wrong with having him in our midfield but to suggest that any midfield partnership at all that includes him could possibly be world class must be some sort of joke, because it's hilarious.

For me Raketa is class. We wouldn't have won that treble without him. He does all the dirty work, and goes off from the limelight. His role in barca is completely different, where it is very less likely to be flashy. And yes he had a average year this year though.

Rakitic can still offer goals, height, grit in midfield.
He will have it easier with Verratti carrying the midfield control duties.

Actually, Iniesta was quite good at the beginning of the season but he can't do it all alone with Gomes who struggle a lot in his first season. He still can be very useful when we give him the rest he needs and a good partner next to him.

I specifically said he hasn't been good since we won the treble. It's great that we did that but in the two seasons following that he's been average at best, Gomes-tier at worst.

He is so far away from being class it's ridiculous. If we had any decent midfielders at all he'd lose his starting spot in a millisecond.
