This Supercup doesn't matter too much competitively(although the prize money would be nice), but this man should not be playing in any league or European game. He is getting too much mileage from Xavi out of his first game against Bayern.

Second time in two games, simple ball behind him, and he is stunned like he got sniper shoted in the head.

He's a poor man's Jeremy Mathieu who is slower and clumsier.

Mathieu wasn't perfect but at least we got two good years out of him and came up big when we needed him during the treble and double seasons when he was playing as a CB.

Xavi subs him on for additional height in the air but fails to realize this guy is far to easy to beat in 1v1s due to his lack of pace and his mobility.

Far to many times teams have easily got in behind him because of his lack of pace and mobility.

Yep, with Alonso you lose a lot in defense. High risk, high reward player. Should play minimal minutes. Disaster waiting to happen.

Basically I would only play him,if Barca is trailing or tied game where we completely dominate possession and the game, so no big risk defensively. He can add to offense in games like these.

Playing him in any other way is just stupid

Mathieu had raw physicality and was a train once he reached top speed. Alonso has neither.

If he wants a player to sub on late in games to defend aerially, then get a player who excels at that. Alonso is literally an offensive player who just happens to be tall. He's never been good in defence even in his prime.

Well, he came on at 1-1 when we needed a goal so there is that.

But sub was clearly planned before we conceded so wouldn't surprise me if Xavi wanted to take out Araujo initially (his subs - especially Dembele and FDJ at an hour mark - were all more in the preserve some key players energy for the potential final and hope to win 1-0 category which obviously backfired so everyone had to play additional 30 minutes) but changed his mind last second after Betis goal and subbed out Alba instead. Would clearly be better to bring on Balde as an offensive sub at that time (but don't know if he was even warming up) and he'd probably also keep up better with Luiz Henrique's pace.

I think Alonso was solid in a few league games he started as a CB but was almost always a liability when subbed on later in the game. Like it or not he's clearly our 4th CB in Xavi's mind though. Tells you everything you need to know about Eric.

Marcos Alonso's renewal is done. He'll sign for one more season + an optional one. The official announcement is a matter of hours. [sport]

Really don't understand this. Alonso doesn't provide anything at any position. It's inexplicable.
