Who's Robert?
Robert Goncalves, a Brazilian player we brought in for the B team on Loan from Fluminense (Brazilian Club) with a option to buy back in January. He was an Attacking Mid/Forward/Winger, but He never featured for Barca B and when he first came to Barca he was overweight and it took nearly two months for him to finally get fit enough to play. But he wasn't remotely impressive in training and we decided to not buy him at the end of the season.

We have good relations with Fluminense and we paid to have options on Gerson,Kenedy,Marlon Last Summer. Gerson and Kenedy went to Roma and Chelsea, and we didn't sign Marlon yet so during the January transfer window we decided to Bring in Robert (Which I considered a trial) for the B team on Loan and if he performed and impressed we buy him and if not we send him back without paying a fee.

I actually don't blame some of the Skeptical folks when we signed Marlon, as we are really a hit and miss when it comes to scouting and buying players from Brazil. For every Marlon and Neymar you will get guys like Douglas,Kerrison,Henrique,Robert etc.

Marlon was considered one of Fluminense's newest "Jewels" he's often compared to Thiago Silva in terms of playing style and he said himself he sees Silva as a reference.

My point is that people need to stop judging players before even seeing them play a single match, it's disgusting

Marlon, who was supposed to travel to Manchester with the first team this morning, left his passport at home and will travel later. (md)

Good news. It's great to finally have something promising coming up from the B team defensively, even if it's not the La Masia product many of us were hoping for.

There was one, Rodri Tarin, who didn't get a shot when he was carrying the entire B defense last season. Now he's out in the cold, even before his injury. Anyways, looking forward, the next great La Masia CB is Chumi from Juvenil A (injury-prone though) and Eric Garcia from Cadet A (biggest CB talent since Bartra, probably better).

Impressive Marlon Santos gains credit with Luis Enrique

The Brazilian has been convincing in the weeks he has trained with the first-team squad, although he will go back to the B team this weekend

Marlon Santos will return to playing in the Mini Estadi on Saturday, against Badalona. Gerard Lopez is waiting for him and is looking forward to his return. In the four games he has played with the B team before Luis Enrique took him up to the first team squad, they only let in one goal, from a penalty.

The Brazilian is absorbing Barcelona’s concepts of play well. Luis Enrique has had him for two weeks to analyse him in depth while Gerard Pique and Jeremy Mathieu are out injured. The coach and his staff have been convinced by him. Of course he still has to improve, but he has a good base to become a centre-back of the future for the club.

They like all his defensive aspects, how he anticipates, cuts in with strength and clashes with opponents without fear. He gets the ball back quickly and helps keep the play in the opposition half.

The principle aspect they think he needs to improve in is bringing the ball out from the back. The staff think he has the ability to play defence-splitting passes and long balls that help the play, but lacks confidence to do that at the moment. He should build this at Barca B even though he has to play in small stadiums, some with artificial grass.

The first team coaches will continue their analysis over the weeks ahead. Juan Carlos Unzue , Robert Moreno and Joan Barbara pay a lot of attention to the B team and tell Luis Enrique the crucial info.

In the weeks he has trained with the first team he has made good impressions on them too The Brazilian clan, Neymar and Rafinha, have taken well to him after losing their friends Dani Alves, Adriano, Douglas and his humble attitude has been taken to well in the dressing room.

After years of fruitless searching for centre-backs, Barcelona have chosen well with Samuel Umtiti and Marlon Santos.

Tarin is the La Masia product I was actually referring to. His rise to prominence with the B team coinciding with the dark era of La Masia usage that is Lucho is unfortunate and even now that Lucho looks likely to leave at the end of the season he's injured himself majorly, so his chances are looking even more grim.

I don't have any patience for injury prone players so we can write Chumi off right now, and tbh before Juvenil level I tend to stay away from any hype, even for talents like Samper and Alena. Is that position really so bare right now? Future managers won't have much of a choice for call ups even if they do want to bring some kids up.

Yup. It really is. But seriously though, Eric Garcia is the real deal when it comes to Masia defenders. He's already playing with Juvenil players for the Spanish youth national teams... Above his talents he's a born leader (captain his whole footballing life) with great mentality. I'm lucky to have been in contact with him already. There's not a bad thing about him. If everything goes well, I see him as Pique's ideal replacement and our future captain.

In regards to other Masia CB's, there's Infantil A's Arnau Ollé, a very modern CB who is great on the ball. Although I think DM would fit him well in the future. Otherwise, nobody really special... Definitely the weakest position in La Masia.

According to MD we will use our option to buy Marlon at the end of the season from Fluminense.

First Sport then the Reliable Globoesporte and now MD all confirming it. We technically already paid most of his transfer fee thanks to the money we got back from the first Option deals on Kenedy and Gerson from what MD/Sport/Globo reported and we just need to pay a 2 Million for him and it's done.

No wonder Fluminense fans are saying they're getting robbed.

Either way good for Marlon, I remember reading a Sport Piece when he first signed the loan deal that he told his dad he will do everything he can to convince Barca to make the move Permanent and it looks like he easily accomplished his goal.
