I agree with Meta. Pep not playing Martin when we needed a CB says just about how much he trusted him.

I think Martin is/could be awesome, but as a full back, he is really not a good center back, so yeah I wouldn't play him in my team as CB, but he would have a lot of minutes as LB...
For example, imagine Dani Alves playing as CB, that would be a disaster, yet he's perfect for the RB role...

Meta, how is what you just said pertain to ANYTHING I just said? CACERES ISN'T PEPS PERSONAL WASTE OF 25 MILLION. Of course he is going to defened Chyg, he had no reason to defend Caceres.
You can say whatever you want, but if Chyg keeps playing the way he is your going to see Pep sing a very different tune. Period. Unless, as I said, he is a bad coach or downright delusional (which he isn't) b/c let me tell you, as many mistakes as Caceres made I dont see him being worse than Chyg has been.
I would of rather had Toure be a part of the rotation for CB than spend 25 million on a young, SLOW CB who has only played in a weak league. He would of be at least dependable coverage until we found someone cheaper or worth the price. Other clubs have found young CBs, for MUCH cheaper and have performanced great off the bat, why can't we?

we've ALWAYS had trouble with defenders adapting to us. remember reiziger? andersson? fuck, even bogarde wasn't that bad when he came here. playing defence for barcelona and real madrid is probably the hardest thing there is. and for us there is the added pressure (especially now) of being able to take part in the play. if the defence can't use the ball then our whole rhythm is fucked.
chysus can really use the ball and yet is a very physical defender. his only problem is lack of proper pace, and even then half of THAT problem is not actual slowness but being caught flat-footed so the defender has a headstart on him. if he can solve that one flaw most of his "issues" will disappear.
also, yeah, you didn't see caceres being worse than chysus coz he played about 5 games in the whole season. pep didn't trust him at all, not even enough to play the guy. he trusts chysus, however, and is giving him minutes so he adapts. and because he is adapting, you're seeing his mistakes. the trust is there, though. no doubts.

I would say that his pace issue isn't split half and half, its about 90% lack of speed and 10% being caught flat footed. Even when the guy is in full flight he looks like he's running through a foot of mud, he would need a 15 yard head start to keep up with ANYONE in a foot race. You can tell why Pep wanted him, he's very similar to Pique in the sense that he's big and is willing to keep possession. I won't rag on him for his poor short passing game (including some horrendous back passes) because thats something he can improve in time. His speed, however, is not something that you can just fix in training, and no matter how he develops it will always make him a liability. I obviously don't want to give up on him yet, but unless he's paired with a speedy CB who can cover for him (which we don't have atm...) I don't trust him to play any mildly significant game.
And co0ter, bad tackles weren't Martin's only lapses in judgement, he was even worth than Chyg when it came to dumb passes in the backfield. In the few games he played last season he damn near had a couple of assists for the other team.

This guy sucks big time, just as Chygrinsky. They are both 23,24 years old and they didn't show absolutely anything, so i doubt they ever will. It's almost 50 mil. wasted. Pep could bought Jonny Evans for 25 mil. who is top-notch deffender and has football brain.

I know that was a shameful tackle, and he deserved at least two months ban for that, but it just made me hate Vidic even more and his sick and hypocrisy smile after Evans tackle.
I watched Evans play and it's really incredible how good he is, his positioning, deffending vision, he's also tall, strong and has typical irish temper, he's quite a character. He would be perfect for Barca, i kid you not ...

I have my own little dislike for that guy, because my friend keeps saying he's better than Pique and hence it was Pique who was shipped off to Barca(but then I counter that saying that it's him who won the CL Final for Barca by stopping EVERY cross that came into his box!!) even though he's shit... And after that tackle my dislike turned into hatred for that guy. Such a disgusting piece of shit!! True, we don't need to have all saints to be in the squad, but don't we even need to have gangsters who keep running into opponents' balls instead of the actual ball for what they are playing

evans is truly magnificent, but there's nothing that says he'd settle at barca.

I can't comment on Evans b/c I honestly haven't paid much attention to Man U since Ronaldo left. However I did catch the first half of their game today and he made the mistake that led to the goal hehe. I didn't watch the second half b/c I was too busy playing Fifa 10 with my dream squad.
