Martin Montoya

He always has one touch too much, but in all honesty, every single one of those balls that he eventually crosses or passes makes waaaaaaay more sense than any of Alves'. Montoya's crosses are usually directed at a teammate.

So true. Alves just punts the ball hoping for our midgets to outmuscle giants to get to the ball

The lad has potential and he knows he has to improve and if he gets more and more minutes I'm sure he'll be a better RB for us.

That's good. He is aware, that's always positive.

He has potential. He just needs patience and work.

Yeah, I agree...He's getting into those positions and many times puts in a great ball unlike Alves who seems to do it less & less, IMO...But good to read that he was quick to point out his failings on the night as well...Of course, the more you play, the more you sort that out too I think

You pull of playing Montoya against La Liga opponents, heck even CL teams like Celtic and Milan. But when we reach the knock out stages and we draw a top club like City or Bayern who aren't afraid to attack against us, Montoya will struggle and it shows how important Dani actually is. Anyways, we shouldn't write Montoya off either. You never know how a player will develop.

He is very good at getting into the right positions, but his decision making for the final passes aren't the best just yet. Really like him though!

There is Alves wasted crosses then there is Montoya blocked crosses :p

Not worried about his offense I'm just glad he is doing his defensive duties properly .

His defensive duties are well done, but if he avoids that unnecessary last extra touch before crossing he would be much more better.

Yes, but his crosses are blocked because they're going exactly where they're supposed to, and the defenders need to deal with that. Alves' crosses can't be and don't need to be blocked because they're going into the stands.

Was there not a stat on here that Alves crossing stas compare favourably with the other top full backs around the world?

Far too much is made of him being a poor crosser of the ball.

Don't bother. It's one of those things that are perpetuated without any real evidence to back it up. I can post 10 key Barcelona goals that had a Dani Alves cross at their core. Best crosser in our whole squad IMO.

10 goals coming from Alves' crosses in over 5 years.. fantastic.

The thing is, none of us deny that he was a beast and the best right back in the world, but that's what he used to be. Right now he's just a shadow of his former self and by no means the best crosser in our team, Alexis usually delivers way better and more intelligent crosses.

A shadow that emasculated C.Ronaldo and almost scored for 3-0 in a clasico he played pretty damn perfect from start to finish. Yea, I got that. I'll give you my home number so you can give me a call when Montoya will do some of the amazing thing Dani did on the pitch and still is able to do for this team. Maybe Alves is not that constant anymore, but he's a real asset for this team. Montoya is nowere near his level and nor he will be in less than 2-3 years, if ever.

Now really, check the video, does he look like a bad crosser to you?
