Hummels is too slow, so is Verto....I think Hummels could do well in defense for us but not with Pique as our first choice pairing. I'd love to have someone that is a beast in the air like Hummels, he is so good at defending corners/freekicks. Hummels to replace Pique, yes. To partner? No. I got a weak spot for Pique though, when he was good for us he was truly an animal.

We need a scrappy, aggressive CB (stopper-like) to partner Pique. Thiago Silva is obviously first choice (and he does it with class/finesse- lovely player to watch), but unlikely given PSG has endless money. I honestly don't know who else would be ideal. All the other choices have weaknesses, a lot of give and take. All I know is that speed is the biggest factor, we need someone who can defend counters and keep up and clean up.

I'm telling you guys, the answer is either Marqinhos or Martinez. Marqinhos shows a lot of the same attributes TS has. He is very young but had strong showings in a challenging Serie A, and also has first team experience. We could sign him for 15 mil, no questions asked and has everything we need.

Martinez is more like Puyol, smaller but fast as fuck, a great tackler and has the tenacity and desire in the box to win headers defensively and offensively plus he will be learning from the best. I'm sure Puyol would take him under his wing.

Either or both, we are ready to ride next season

dude this is no time for experiments, last season was a disaster regardless of what the club says, a top club like barca simply don't lose by 7 goals in a semi final, our problem is the defense and we have to get a top player in, in addition to maybe a thiago silva we could buy either of these players but them alone wont do it for me

It's never a smart move to go on a paranoid, blind spending spree in the case of a disaster. Most of it boils down to a tactical problem and I'll tell you one thing, it's not gonna make a difference if it's Thiago Silva or Mascherano when there's a 2 man defense going up against 3-4 attackers with acres of space to play in. Stopping attacks at the root is what the team should be focusing on more, because doing that will make our defenders perform better as well. Marquinhos and Martinez add exactly what we currently need in terms of personnel and depth and that is a young, reliable, stopper-role CB who would fit in perfectly.

Has no one thought about Dede yet? I am positive we can get him very cheaply from Brazil

United have been linked with him more than Barca have but I'd be willing to give him a shot. He's like 6'4 right? Very good for set pieces unless he is anything like Pique. But I think I heard somewhere (can't remember exactly) that he's more of a sweeper than a stopper, in which case it wouldn't be that wise considering he wouldn't pair up well with Pique.

Gone right off him, after that CL Final performance.

Makes too many mistakes, and his decision making is questionable.

I think his technical skills and distribution is lacking, to play for Barca

I'd go for Vertonghen.

To be fair, he was playing injured, this wasn't exactly his typical performance.

I Would rather have small players who are fast, strong and can jump very high (Iňigo Martinez) than tall players that are pussies and slow as hell and can't jump (Pique)

Fair enough, but I just don't think Inigo alone would be enough to solve our problems. I'm a big fan of his, just I would love to seem Sakho come in (tall, can jump, read the game and is fast). Maybe we can get both, neither would be too expensive...

I don't mind Sakho but for what he offers, I'd rather have Marqinhos. They are about the same size (Sakho slightly taller) and Marqinhos is much faster than Sakho. I'd probably say Sakho is a better tackler but Marquinhos is a better reader of the game and has a no non-sense attitude to defending that will complement Piqué nicely. He just reminds me a lot of TS when he was young and I think he would fit in well.

I'm sorry but sako is massively overrated! Hummels is great but we already have similar piqué and I think we play too high a line for someone as slow as him to join pique.

We must look at other options

Fair enough, I don't watch Serie A so I'm not going to compare Marquinhos to anyone else but if he's as good as you say then he and Inigo would be solid. Another bonus is Inigo being left footed, making Inigo-Marquinhos back-line have a VERY high potential.

T.Silva is so much better than Hummels. It is kinda funny that some prefer him over Thiago to be honest.

Also Juan Jesus of Inter.
Barca should sign Marquinhos & Juan Jesus (especially if we're going after Brazilians)

Do you even watch Inter? I do because Inter is my favourite Italian club.

Believe me, Juan Jesus was one of the worst players in Serie A this season; absolutely atrocious. I really hope we will never even consider signing him.

Thiago Silva is the best centre back in the world. I think some on here prefer Hummels cause he is younger and we'll get more years out of him then Thiago Silva.
