Let's see how he does vs. Real Madrid now.

Cannot be too sure about players from the Portuguese league either. Way too many busts and few success stories the last 5-10 years.

He’s probably our best CB prospect since Silva. Not even Marquinhos was as impressive, but we’ll see.

Some of you guys have such simplistic arguments and views it's painful.

Real Madrid conceded more goals and scored less goals than Barcelona in the league, but still kept winning the CL. Liverpool sucked in the league, yet made the CL final.

Chelsea were garbage, yet won the CL.

Barcelona weren't conceding many goals last season yet got their asses handed to them in Roma. How?

Unsurprisingly they are the same people who are saying that Barca have the most goals this season so they must be playing entertaining football.

Literally no depth in their arguments. They watch one game and form long-lasting conclusions. If you call them out, they back away and get defensive and claim they didn't do just that

Both him and De Jong very bad today. Ajax being teared apart.

Na ... De Jong was real impressive I felt .
His passing and driving runs where he goes past people like they're statues is very impressive and just what we need .
Rakitic is history .

because 99% of the people that visit this thread haven't watched more than 180 minutes of de ligt
much less recently.

so both arguments (fanboys and haters) hold no weight

Quality wise, he shouldn't cost more than 50m, but that's not how the market works because if teams are prepared to pay over 70 or 80m then that's what he's worth in the end. Normally, I wouldn't pay this fee if the board won't hire a manager that will value possession above all because, as with Pique, having possession hides his biggest shortcoming: pace.

De Ligt's positioning looks good for a 19 yo kid and it can be improved even further so he does have that going for him plus leadership and good physique.

I'm not all in or nothing when it comes to de Ligt, but he should be judged fairly and not based on one bad game when he's had good games vs. better opposition.

That said, an argument could be made for signing a very athletic CB with raw pace, but guys like Konate or Upamecano are also going to cost a lot of money.

Most important trait would definitely be aerial ability. We cant allow our CBs as well to be questionable in the air. Up front we need pace and movement. The striker should ideally be good to great in the air as well. A CB who relies on pace is not advisable. We have already lost if we rely on that too much. We need to avoid pace duels in the first place by proper tactics and positioning.
