No offense, but if these were 90's, a player of his style would have played in Albacete.

With Spanish 2008-2012 domination, suddenly this type of somewhat sterile, possession recycling midfielders gained in importance.
He looks like a clone of players from Del Bosque's 460 with zero attackers.

But as I have said, it seems that the whole world is moving in a different direction.
4231, CAMs, goalscoring wingers, goalscoring midfielders are starting to be "in" lately.

But our fanbase is getting hyped about players like Arthur and Puig.
Pre-2008, no one would have paid more than 3m for them.

Anyway, I am watching his highlights and I have no idea what is supposed to be his role in a modern football.

If we'll play 433 and try to replicate Pep's era, he could play.
In all other formations and eras, he is a huge meh.

Kinda like Busi.
A player for one formation and for one type of football only.

In te 90s Spains NT played te same sterile posesion play and crashed out of tournaments in group stage, because there was no penetration, despite all these talented players having a good time juggling the ball to each other. Then came players like Xavi, Inesta and Busquets, who actually tried penetrating passes and look where it get them. Puig is liked exactly because he has shown that ability to pierce defenses either by passing and runs. This is exactly what current Spain in all generations lacks, which is why Adama is a surprise hero all of a sudden - he actually tries to be aggressive.

Good point. That's why Puig looked good for Barca too. He is always looking for forward passes.

Spain's style only work if there is someone like Xavi available which not happen in 90s.
Without Xavi, there is no tikitaka for them.

He needs to be used more. Just in that short cameo, he gets on the ball and moves himself in a position to receive it back straight away. He offers dynamism and urgency that the team can desperately lack at times.

Feel sad for him. It seemed like Setien gave him a lifeline but Koeman just refuses to use him. I see zero reason why Puig is worse than Busi in that role. Busi does not win aerial duels anyway. Puig's workrate is 10 times bigger and he will actually be more of a defensive presence  while being far better in attack automatically as well. OR we can use a 4-3-3 in some games vs weaker sides. Koeman is so obstinate ffs. We are wasting him.

This just proofs that Koemann is a stupid man.

It's called a having a conservative mindset. Unfortunately conservatism and prejudice go hand in hand sometimes.
