Puig should have gone on loan no question. He's a huge Barca fan though, so I guess it's easy for us to tell him to pack in his dream of succeeding at his boyhood club.
However, with most young players unless your talent is undeniable to all it also down to luck if the manager believes in you. There are many good traits about Puig but he also has many weaknesses.
It also depends on what he's looking to get out of his career. We can't have world-beaters in every position twice over, it doesn't work or keep people happy. However, he's certainly got enough about him to add dynamism and a spark in games without being a vital cog he also has a great passion for the team which also transpires in his play.
In a nutshell, no he isn't ever gonna get close to De Jong's level but he certainly has enough to succeed on a squad level.
Plus too many times in recent years we've blown millions on bang average shit, that an academy player could have easily filled the role. It's time to spend transfer fees on players that will actually improve the first 11.
