I will never understand the vitriol you guys throw at this player.

1. He's from the academy, so he basically costs nothing.

2. He's a diehard fan of the club.

3. I believe he's never had a controversy in the media, he's relatively quite quiet. There are no complaints about him. He's diligent.

4. Even if he sucks and isn't good enough, it's not like he plays so it's not an issue.

So I ask you guys this, why? Why do you waste so much energy on an irrelevant, cheap in terms of cost but also a diehard fan of the club on a daily basis? It makes no sense that this is one of the most active threads on this forum.

Puig must be the most talked about young sub player ever

I don't think he'll have a great career but at least he's physically capable to run 100m without an injury, didn't cost 130M and doesn't earn a fortune - these already put him above like half the squad at this point. It really doesn't matter if he's in the squad or not, maybe he'll play maybe not it's not a big deal either way because he isn't in the way of other players or potential signings.

Some have mentioned my name as a reason to "hate" (as they say) this player.
I guess it's very psychological for them, there is a big lack of trust in their own judgement: most had very high hopes on him when he first broke through, then they don't know how to handle it with him getting to play so little now. Could the coach really be wrong? Puig's extremely positive and professional personality makes them question even more - isn't he even angry when he doesn't get to play? Well maybe then the coach must really be right... So they try to build some explanation as to why he doesn't play, instead of trusting their own eyes.
It's also his small stature, their wicked minds would surely calm down just a little if he had just weighed 5kgs more.

Their negative thoughts towards this player increased over a summer where they didn't ever get to see him play - meaning it's mostly just in their heads, it's not about what they see on the pitch.

My statement that he was a top 5 midfielder in the world was of course a bit premature or a bit of a gamble, as I had only seen him in about 10 full games or something back then. But he had played with that class, and he has continued to do so since then, the little he played. As most people think that this is very much overhyping him, they overcompensate by thinking he needs to be put in a garbage bin etc.

tldr: group psychology and not so much independent logical thought; because as you write, it makes no sense to be very negative towards him as a squad player.

You take yourself far too important. Puig is just not a very likable chap. I still hope he amounts to something, because it would be good for us, but my heart is not in it.

I hope I don't actually influence these posters view of this player - but I've read many say so.
It is irritating to many that people still believe he is a good player, despite Koeman not rating him.

I am personally triggered when some players are (imo) unreasonably hyped.

Imo, every player is overrated.
But I don't mind when a player is slightly overrated.

For example:
Imo Pedri is a good player but not as good as people here are hyping him.
But since he is not bad, I am not triggered with a hype on Pedri.

On the other hand, imo, Puig is beyond average and he will struggle to play a 1st division football.
And when people hype him, it provokes a reaction in me (and in a lot of other users, it seems).

The same was with Arthur.
If he would have been only slightly overrated, nothing would happen.
But posts how Frenkie-Arthur are the best CM pair in Europe, lol.
Or how Arthur is the 2nd best midfielder in Europe warranted 1000 hate posts.

I don't know why, it triggers me personally.

If I wouldn't read this forum, I wouldn't talk bad about Pep.
But since Pep has a cult status among too many of our fans and who give him excuses for everything = I have to make a balance and shit on him.

The same is about Messi.
Before this forum, I never thought a single bad word about him.
But the eternal Messi vs CR7, amplifiying everything what he does and shitting on everything what CR7 does also created some sort of reaction in me so I started to write bad about Messi in the last 2 seasons.

But it is not only about Barca, I get triggered by a similar behavior on random music, movies and similar forums where people go into extremes and where the thing which they like NEEDS to be the best (that is a deeper psyschological topic where people feel more important when their interest/love or anything somehow related to them is special/different/better/the best in the world).

An example: I am from Croatia, and journos here often write how Croatia is one the most successful countries in the world in teams sports (lol), because we have some medals in football, handball and waterpolo.
About football, it is true.
But about handball, barely 15 countries in the world are playing that sport in a serious way (Spain, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Croatia more or less).
So, if you end 4th, you are not the 4th between 200 countries but 4th among 8 countries and you are not successful but average.
The same is with a fking waterpolo. Like only 6 European countries in total (on a Mediterranean sea) are playing that sport and if we win a bronze, we are not the 3rd between 200 countries but the 3rd out of 6 countries.

So, unrealistic things and overrating/lying like this is always triggering me.
About Puig, why should I hate the kid?
Ok, he is a little annyoing as a person (he seems like a needy/boring friend).
But outside of that, I don't think that his type of football can succeed + paired with his personality who is more concerned about social status, girls, fame and Instagram.
His physique is horrible, his skills are beyond meh and his attitude isn't promising.

About guys mentioning you, that is just a regular Barcaforum trolling show which we do for years, don't take it seriously.

Good post BBZ but that argument with handball and waterpolo is bogus . Makes zero sense.

We play both so why isn't Romania in your list?

It's a shit post. He takes extreme positions to oppose other extreme positions. What a noble hero. That's precisely what's wrong with social media. Reason and middle ground cannot prevail anymore.
