In Croatia you can.
Btw he can use his mothers birth last name ie.
Yeah could probably become Memphis Schensema. Don't think it'd have much of an effect now though when everyone knows him as Depay.

Is it only effect he's after?
Seems a bit strange that he didn't do it, if it worries him so much.
Telling other people what to do, but not taking a simple step to change it.
This might seem very pinpointy, but I think it tells something about the person and also about the "leader" and player.
You write a request to the Ministry of Security and Justice. You can use the name change application form on the website of the Integrity and Screening Agency (Dienst Justis)(external link).
You will receive a confirmation from the ministry with an explanation about the subsequent procedure.
The ministry will ask the municipality (Department of Public Service) for advice on your request.
The Minister of Security and Justice will take a decision on your request for a name change within 10 months.
The municipality of your birth will alter the details on your birth certificate. Your details will also be changed in the Personal Records Database (BRP) in the municipality where you live.
Once the procedure has been completed, certain documents will no longer be valid. For example, your passport or driving licence. You will need to reapply for these documents.
There is a difference between changing a name for minors, changing a name for adults and changing a name due to mental and/or physical health.
The Minister of Security and Justice will rule on your request for a change to your family name. The name change is done by Royal Decree. You will receive this decision by post, and if you were born in the Netherlands the municipality of your birth will also be informed. Your personal details will also be changed in the BRP.
So you think he's saying these things for the attention?
Dele Alli for example hasn't changed his name either.
I found the process to changing name in Netherlands. It's a lot of hassle and might be hard for an active footballer do so with the reliance on passport/ID.
Anway, I think it's just easiest to go by the first name.
He's with NT and won't be presented before July.
I will call him whatever he wants if he comes in here and bangs some goals
Bobo32's trolling style so subtle.
