Are we too dependant on Messi?

I don't know if we are overly dependant or not on him but he's been our best player tonight.

I think Barca is dependant on Messi. I have seen few Barca games this season[about 10-15] and almost every time ball is on Messi/Xavi/Iniesta! They are superb triangle, of course, but it's a bit TOO much pressure on Messi. If Messi doesn't play good[he often does play good, but there may come times when he won't play as a best player in the world], Barca may lose many points and it's a bit dangerous. And I think that Yaya is your second best player. He is brilliant! If there wasn't Yaya and Messi, you probably weren't that high in table! But I agree with M.L. King comment- each team has key players and it's totally normal to have absolute leader in your team ;)

But sometimes Messi doesn't contribute in many matches even if he played and we still win. Bottem line is we can cope without him

Many teams in the world many times rely on one player. Like gerrard in liverpool, or arsenal to henry back in the past. And we all saw what maradona did to argentina in '86 WC, I almost certain that argentina would probably loose in the second round, if not because of mighty diego.

It's a normal thing.

But last season we also witnessed we could win without messi. Remember when we won 4-0 against sevilla? So it's not a very bad thing. But I jalso hoping that we can play another 'magic' without messi. I believe pep could find the answer.

We are messi/xavi/iniesta dependent.

Which is more than most teams can say. We need one of three players to be on form to play well.

The "messidependence" thing was an absurd accusation levelled at us by the Madrid press at the time of the Racing and Osasuna games when Messi saved our bacon (as great players do) with late goals. The line was that Barça wasn't so good, we were just lucky enough to have Messi. In the run in Messi was a little more subdued, mainly due to tiredness, but Iniesta, Xavi and Henry et al stepped up and became match winners and Leo still scored the 2nd in Rome and twice at the Bernabéu. In essence, therefore, we are not at all Messi dependent, he just happens to be our best player and thankfully he will be one of the individuals to seize the day and win us the game when the other 10 players are struggling to make an impact.

I think that in a way we are dependant on Messi, but I think that almost applies with every team's best player. We're a worse team without Messi, thats natural, of course we are, he's the best player in the world and not having him in your team lessens our attacking force, but I dont think we miss him AS much as we could. Obviously when Messi isnt in the team, people will be unhappy, you miss his runs and ability to entertain, his ability to win matches, but then we have people like Iniesta, Xavi, Eto who can make up for that.

The difference between Man Utd's "dependance" on Ronaldo, and on Messi, is that if we were to lets say sell Messi, we'd lose more. Messi's attitude both on and off the field is impeccable, he takes a huge amount of fouls from opposition teams and still gets up. He recognises Barcelona isnt all about him, we're a team, thats how we play and why we've won the treble this year. By selling Ronaldo Man Utd have of course lost a HUGE asset on the field, but I think that they've gained that back off the field, Man Utd can go back to being a team, not about Ronaldo. If they make the right signings, combined with what they've now gained off the field by selling that petulant little ****, they can fill the gap Ronaldo has left. Obviously its easier for me as a Barcelona fan to say that, it would be more difficult as a Man Utd fan because I'd be gutted, he might be a **** cunt but Ronaldo is still fantastic, losing your best player is a kick in the teeth to any team.

I dont think we could replace Messi in any way, he's better than Ronaldo this year, we wont sell him, like I said he's not like Ronaldo, he will stay at Barca, hopefully we wont see any injuries =].
