Messi also had 34 assists in the 2011-12 season (29 for barça, 5 for argentina) for club and country

Messi had 37 assists in 2011 (27 for barça and 10 for argentina) for club and country

I have no idea what the record for most assists in a season/year is though.

According to some Mata had something like 35 assists a couple of seasons ago.

Fair or not, Messi is destroying those records too

Needs only 22 and 28 goals this season to equal those 6 and 7 season records.

What about most hattricks?

To be fair some of the best players in the world played in brazil at the time, although I dont know how good the Sau Paulo regional league was that Pele played in. Pele also ripped it up on the international stage and in friendlies against European sides.

It was a joke, like Messi playing against the likes of Gibraltar every week, teams consisting of amateurs and players who play football after their shift at the factory, that in combination with the great teammates he had inflated his stats quite a bit (plus counting the friendlies).
Yeah, he was a great player tearing it up on the international stage but he was part of the absolute best team at that time, imagine if Messi had played for Spain during their 2008.-2012. domination period(and football has evolved so much, tactics and just the quality of opposition means that teams like Iran can be competitive and hold the likes of Argentina to just a 1-0 win).

Yeah numerous people on here have said Messi is only 6 behind in La Liga. For CL apparently Giggs has 30, Messi is on 18.
