The smart play is to flog Christensen. His availability is inconsistent and we can't get 90 minutes out of him when he is. Also has not impressed this season at centre back and has a inflated value due to his stint in the EPL.
Would be foolish to sell Faye before giving him a chance in the first team. What if he performs as well as Cubarsi? You've let gold go for the price of bronze.
This isn't a smart thing, it is just a day dreaming thing.
Christensen is a 28 years old CB who has an achilles tendinopathy who isn't elite.
Yes, if we can get 50M for him., amazing. But who is going to pay for this? Which club will look t it, and say, oh we missed on this injury prone player when he was available for free, let's pay big money for him?
I mean from sporting perspective, It is ideal to keep everyone but the deadweight. Keep the young players who could turn great, keep our starters, sell the bums and the dead weights and then get a CDM and LW and we are set.
But the reality isn't like that.
-6 players will be automatically unregistered from the first team squad: Alonso, Roberto (free agents), Roque & Fermin (temporarily registered as injury replacements) and Cancelo & Felix (return from loan).
-Only Dest, Fati, Eric & Lenglet are registered as first team squad from the players loaned out. J.Araujo, Torre & Valle aren't.
-we can only use limited number of B players, so we have to register players.
-If we don't get the Libero money, we end the year with massive loss, even if we win CL and Liga, so next year salary cap will be even less, making the chance of ending it without another loss is equal zero to non, and loss in one year will lead to tighter FFP the next one and so on, it is a vicious cycle, and if we don't stop it, even new Stadium won't get us back to 1 to 1 rules and won't stabilize our finances, unless we do a RM and sell a lever from tickets or something like that, hurting our future.
-With the above said, one thing has been consistent about Barca, no matter how bad we think our financial situation is, reality proves to be even worse.
-So, even if we get the Libero money (clock is ticking) we will still need to make sales in order to get to make transfers.
The bottom line, is a sacrifice has to be made, and
Barca need to be smart but courage about it, we can't just roll the can another year and make things worse. Sales needs to be made, as Tebas loves to emphasize, and we don't need to make decisions based on "fear to miss out" on a player.
If the club rates Faye as a sure thing, keep him, but otherwise don't turn down good offers because we are afraid from the chance he might turn great.
