Nope. He is like poster boy for club here. On field he is nothing spectacular and far from his Ajax 18/19 level.

He may not get Rakitic/Vidal/Busauest treatment from fans on internet but fact is he is at their low quality level.

Agreed. His performances that season in the UCL got really overrated. I watched those games and was surprised by how much praise he was getting when there were other teammates playing as well or better.

He was really good and has a great skillset, but a lot of his success was due to having the right teammates and a good system around him. This Barca team justnt isnt as fit and doesnt have enough movement as that Ajax team.

Verticality, something that is very hard for a barca mid to fully comprehend or be able to offer. This is very valuable, his persistence to play forward balls and not be scared to lose the possession. There will be no Xavi and Iniesta for a very long time so "keeping the ball at all costs until the perfect pass is available" gameplan will not be making a comeback anytime soon. So yes, we desperately needed a player like him.

I dont see it in his games. Barely make any difference. Maybe in one or two games he looks class then fade away. Look at his Classico games, invisible in all 3 matches he plays.

De jong starts over Busquets because he?s twice as good physically and about the same on the ball. Busquets should only play against shit teams at home and lower league copa matches.
