I'm surprised people are so open to this. They wouldn't be developing local talent so much as shipping academy prospects over from England and using their American side as a B team. Bit of a piss take of the American league isn't it? There was outrage when Watford essentially became an Udinese reserve side.

I wish they put it here in LA so I didn't have to like the Galaxy anymore ;)

Why do you have to support Galaxy if you don't want to? :pep:

It would just be nice if they went for the European system at least for football, competitive, more divisions, eventually a top division split in two if it's such a big problem to hop on a plane and play away games in NY if you're from LA, Florida or Texas...
I would like it especially if New York Cosmos go top and become a big team :hooray:.

I would really like seeing English players here, and hopefully their style would rub off on the mls guys.
Our league is embarrassing so this would liven it up a bit.

The problem is that everyone treats it as an American sport and takes similar approaches to it as all our other sports. The playoff system is bad, the commentators are bad, the refs are bad, and even the club names are bad.

I feel like since they're my local club I have to support them. I do like seeing Keane and Donovan, but I've always had a fondness of NY and Thierry

Everything sounds artificial in Ameircan sports with those licensing things...

Heard something about a NFL license for L.A., I mean where the fuck is the freedom to have your own team?
Here in Romania, nobodies like Unirea Urziceni, from a peasant town located in the plains north of Bucharest ( very dry, poor and agriculture though zone ) came from the 4th division, won the title in their 3rd year or something after promotion in Div 1, played in the Champions League and beat Rangers and Sevilla. Now they don't exist because the owner gave up like a coward, but for me it does represent a sign of freedom and hope, that any team can, from absolutely nothing like not having money for water to wash their kits to go all the way to fight teams with long tradition in this sport.
Just open up, let there be real professional stuff, at least for football which isn't a main sport in the US, you might have 5 teams from L.A. if people will have interest, not 1 that you are forced to support.

Confirmed on SSN that Man City have teamed up with the New York Yankees and have purchased a New York MLS team. It has cost 100 million and they will join in 2015.

US sporting culture is much different to Europe. They US appetite for Sport is huge and is all about money. I don't really mind the way the MLS is structured. Sure you could argue that it should be like Europe but since 1996 there have been something like 9 different winners of the MLS. In England there have been 4. In Spain 4 or 5? Germany something similar. In Greece one team has won the title 15 times in that period. So at least the MLS provides a lot of competition, wouldn't it be great if La Liga had that same level of competition?

But then you're stuck watching mediocre teams year after year.

True but soccer isn't exactly big in the US so if you have 3-4 clubs becoming wealthy and powerful then the other clubs could die off. On top of that the MLS will always struggle to keep top talent/attract big players, bar those who see it as a retirement league,

Yea you're right. I don't see the league ever becoming much bigger than it is now, especially when good American players ship off to Europe.

It could get a lot bigger than it is now if it didn't have a salary cap. Imagine all the stars on their way out that would go over there for massive wages.

Yea it would get more exciting for sure, but the majority of people still don't like football/soccer. People still make fun of it and think it's a sport for girly-men.

But you have to wonder if it's because our domestic league is "boring" that it causes the majority of Americans to be disinterested. Perhaps if there were more star players to improve the quality of the league it would appeal to more people here.
