I agree with your point, but the part about Iniesta isn't completely true. As far as I recall, he was mostly deployed as a left midfielder under Rijkaard, just as he is nowadays. It's true that he played as a left winger/attacker once in a while in the absence of Dinho, but he also did that under Pep from time to time.

It was 5 years ago so i'm probably not remembering it properly. Maybe a better example is Bale being a LB before transitioning into his newfound role as a wide foward/winger.
