Nabil Fekir

So, the new obsession of our forum will be:
Don't buy Coutinho or Griezmann, but buy 20 year olds Goretzka, Fekir, Lemar, keep Dembele and add Alena and Arnaiz.

This is gold.
This is some Arsenal-esque level of management and (questionable) quality.

You would pick guys with one good season (sometimes not even that) over Cou and Griezz.

Wow.
Bias, unreasonable obsession and overrating every younger player out there is too strong here.

I don't advocate the purchase of Nabil Fekir.

However, I don't think Griezz is a safe buy either. Griezmann transfer is giving me Turan flashbacks.

Nobody is dismissing the idea of getting Griezmann/Coutinho. Rather, it's nice to buy young talents along with them. Because, you know, our squad has some old players and mediocre talent in the mix.

Fekir will be 25 next summer. Goretzka 23. They are not kids by any means unlike the Halilovic type transfers from obscure leagues. There is a big difference. Goretzka would be free. While Suarez continues down the path of mediocrity while being one of the best paid players in the world for the next 4 years. Suarez is a huge obstacle for any new investment in our squad as he is unlikely to want to take a pay cut if we want to offload him. We are not getting rid of oldies Arda and Vermaelen either. Signing 27 year olds for a truck load of money with no re-sale value is a luxury. Can we afford it with the massive wage bill we have and will continue to have as a result of garbage transfers?

Suarez contract is too long but he has been a good signing and proved his worth for his fee and age when signed.

You would seem to argue against signing the likes of him and point to the latest young player who is a hot name. Most of which have proven to be nowhere near Barca level.

Signing the right players at 26/27/28 is fine along with younger players.

No, never said we shouldnt have signed Suarez. He was an opportunity in the market at the time. So you're just making stuff up.

Never said you specifically argued against Suarez so stop making things up.

You are good at that.

Why were you happy to pay 80m for Suarez but not big fee for Griezmann or '27 year olds with no resale value'.

Hell yes. Suarez is a far superior player to Griezmann. No comparison. Suarez was an opportunity in the market because of his antics at the World Cup. Worth the risk. 27 year olds for a massive fee is a big luxury, no doubt about that. With Suarez on a huge contract for the next 4 years, while he is rapidly sliding into mediocrity, our hands are getting tied. We already have huge amounts of garbage on high wages as well. Struggling to offload them.

Suarez antics at the World Cup never made any difference to the fee and if anything made him a riskier signing for that money at 27.

27 year olds on a fee that is not 'massive' in this market is not as big a risk as you make out.

Spending 30/40m on a more unproven 23/24 could easily be a bigger risk. More likely to be if anything.

Please dont go over these made up wages again and quote overall figures as net.

Also have many players on much less than could be making elsewhere.

Of course Suarez antics was important. He offered a great opportunity as other teams were hesitant about him even though his quality was unquestionable.

Suarez had already agreed to Barcelona and the fee was set.

His antics altered nothing other than making it more of a risk.

On the back of that he was the third most expensive player ever and much closer to the price of the most expensive players than Griezmann would be.
