What pressure and aggressiveness? They both ran towards the ball in 1 second of time that there was, the other guy was obviously futher away and the ball was flying away from the goal so he was the one who got it, Semedo cannot fly, what would Carvajal would have done here? Won the header or something?

First the guy got behind him with ease then he's late in his jump. Not the first time he's losing a duel there.

The entire situation was caused by a shitty pass by Roberto followed by a shitty foul by him.

Anyway, for now Roberto should be the starting RB because I never want to see play in the midfield again. Guy is turning 27 in a few months and we're still trying to make a midfielder out of him when he's bang average there.

The entire situation was caused by a shitty pass by Roberto followed by a shitty foul by him.

In every single counterattack or attack by an opponent, one of our players needed to lose the ball, fail a dribble, was tackled and similar.
So, every time when we lose the ball, SOMEONE from our players made a mistake.

So yes, Roberto lost the ball in that action.
But at the end of the day, Semedo still played like a crap in that defensive action AFTER Roberto's mistake.

A few weeks ago we have seen stats that Semedo and Neymar are losing 15-20 balls per match.
That means that later in every single of those actions some of our midfielders or defenders need to save the day and tackle the opponent/intercept the pass.

Every single time when Pique is dribbled past in our box, Messi, Suarez or Dembele lost the ball 20 seconds earlier and caused that counterattack.
Does that exclude Pique from being dribbled in our box or being caught in a wrong position later in that action? No.

So, Roberto lost the ball and Semedo made a crappy defensive attempt later in that action.
Semedo is not excluded in any way for that goal.

Semedo should have had the awareness to at least challenge for that ball, although he might not have probably win it anyways. But he could have put him off. Sergi's foul prior to that is so typical of him, he rarely adds anything in midfield. Would prefer to see Arthur get minutes there.

I bet Semedo is the next one who will end up on the loan/transfer list next summer, the next Digne I'd say. He's lost confidence since last season and shows signs of mental breakdown the way Andre Gomes failed all these years. If Valverde believes in him then he should bring some professional mental coach to work with the guy. If not, give minutes to someone else in minor matches in La Liga FFS.

A few bad passes at the beginning but then a more then solid match. Would have been interesting to see his game without the red card. He started way more offensive.

Starting to wonder if he actually is better defending than going forward. EVERY SINGLE TIME he turns backwards and play the safe pass. Confidence is shot. When he first came he usually had some confidence on the ball (remember those drags with the sole of this boot, anyone?). Probably gone next season.
