Nelson Semedo

There is nothing that suggests Semedo is a better defender than Roberto. Play Roberto in yesterday's game and he would have performed just as good since it was in the Camp Nou against weak opposition.

His speed suggests that. And the fact he saved us on a counter due to his speed. Bob is too slow.

Roberto gets turned out by pretty much any winger with average to good pace he comes up against. You don’t need to be particularly observant to have noticed that surely?

I’ve seen Semedo have a tough time against Vicinius on one occasion, but by and large he is very good in 1v1 defensive situations. His positioning can improve (though Roberto’s is pretty bad anyway), and his final ball still needs work, but I really don’t understand why people do not view him as a very promising, all round modern RB.

He is fast, athletic, good technically, can dribble - so has the foundation to be a very good FB. Aside from Kimmich, who doesn’t even play the position anymore, I’d struggle to think of many who would come in and do an obviously better job. TAA has horrible positioning, throughly admittedly has an excellent attacking output before anyone mentions him.

Semedo has a lot of flaws and will probably be sold this summer.

But Roberto being a better defender? That ain't it chief. Not fast enough, terrible in 1v1 duels especially against physical and speedy players and his positioning is also not great. You just need to watch the Valencia game to see how bad of a joke he is trying to play that CB/RB role.

His only good attributes is going forward and that's pretty much it. But not starter material in any sort of way.

And who will the club be buying that is an obvious upgrade in the position?

No idea.

We will probably sign Emerson or Lukas Klostermann who we have been linked with. But in the end, we will persist in signing Bum managers who think Sergi Roberto is somehow the answer to our RB problems even though the guy is not good enough to be a starter here.

Roberto not being the answer doesnt make Semedo the solution unfortunately. If we get ~50ME for Semedo Im totally fine with trying the next in line (Emerson).

Klostermann would actually be great...a younger Kimmich, a beast in the making :worthy:

Valverde would have benched Semedo the next game with this kind of performance. Have to wait and see about Setien. :coffee:
