Alves was a beast at everything, however he also played alongside Xavi, Busqets and Messi on his side, in a much more cohesive unit. It's slightly unfair to Semedo to expect the same kind of production when the team and the general situation around the team is so much different than before.
Semedo has been as good as expected. Maybe even exceeded the expectations really. He rarely put a foot wrong in all the matches. Considering the siege that Pique has been at this start of season, it's also understandable that he can't really bomb forward that much. There's also that fact that Alba has been playing in a really advanced position, almost like a wing back, so naturally Nelson's side had to have some restraint. Just like Abidal and Alves situation.
I'm so glad that we picked him. Would have been a real shame to buy Bellerin when this guy was on the market. Wenger doing us a favor for a change.
If we can sort our deficiencies in the next transfer windows, this guy gonna be recognized as the best RB in the world. He has that potential.

Born under the sign of perseverance. I've noticed he doesn't accept getting beat and sprints back and usually wins the tackle again. He persists and pesters opponents on the right flank, not pleasant to go through there. Will get worse for opponents as he inevitably matures.
On the offensive end his passing is his most prominent quality, and then he's got his insane pace and pretty decent dribbling. But his predisposition is to stay home and defend the castle, and then go out and play. As opposed to Alves who was the opposite.

Needed a move to Barcelona to start for Portugal ahead of Soares and Cancelo.
Ridiculous how some National Team coaches are.
It's the same with Deschamps and Laporte and Umtiti.
The moment/if Laporte moves to a big club, he'll get called straight away. It took multiple injuries for Umtiti to even get into France's squad for the Euros. He was like his 7th or 8th choice as CB behind bums like Adil Rami and Mangala.

In Semedo's case it was only a matter of time.
The difference between Soares and Semedo in terms of potential and ability is like comparing Juanfran to Dani Alves. Juanfran was a great defender but he didn't have the sheer technical ability like Dani Alves had and other stuff etc.
Soares-Hard worker and generally better defensively than attacking but he lacks the technical and pure overall ability in terms of going forward.
Semedo- He's also a hard worker but he has a lot more to his game and overall potential than Soares. and it's going to get to a point where it's no brainer on who should be a starter.

Deschamps is such a bad coach that its laughable, its like he is there as a joke, doesnt know anything about football and its a matter of time before he gets caught, this should be the best nation in the world right now and they were getting ran over against Bulgaria for straight 90min, makes me appreciate garbage like AFA sometimes.

Semedo is one of the best players on our team. He is amazing... technically, physically... kid has a huge heart, too.

Valverde also keeps him fresh lol. He always gets benched on away games. For sure, he'll be sitting on the bench against Atletico lol

How Semedo doesn't start ahead of Cedric or in Eliseu position, Eliseu...
And how Danilo doesn't start ahead of William "Snail" Carvalho...
