In my experience with Nike I fit both L and M(have Barca jerseys of both). But one will obviously be a bit looser and hang lower(nohomo). Prefer it to not hang low. Gues the bare minimum length for an L would be 1.72.

If you want go for the Messi loose look with the jersey then you might want to go for a size L.

Based on the neckline he was wearing an M during Copa, which fit him well and wasn't too loose. He's pretty lean at the moment.
