Newcastle

Perfect destination for Guardiola, he will never ge good enough for knock out tournament, but might win the PL for them. Of course he can't do it with less than 2 billions for transfers

Simon Jordan on talkSPORT: “For Newcastle, it is a great day, the same way it was a great day for Manchester City, Chelsea and PSG.
“The reason why I say it is not a great day for football is that it brings in a new situation where hyperinflation will come to pass because Newcastle will come in with owners who have 320 billion.

This represents a situation where the ecosystem of the game becomes challenged again because you are going to drive up the prices because Newcastle is not a natural destination for the world’s best footballers.
“I am not talking about geography, but when you have the perception in footballer’s mind where they are going to land then it’s Chelsea in London or Manchester United or Manchester City and now, Newcastle.

“What you are going to find is an element of hyperinflation and to get the best players to Newcastle they will have to pay a premium to start with.

That will drive up the prices across the Premier League and drive up the wages as they will have to pay more in wages to come to Newcastle whilst they realise Newcastle are building to a powerhouse.

“When you start buying Mbappe or whoever they are going to buy, you will drive up the price because wages will go up.

“And that’s the worry I have.”

I'm surprised that Bayern don't feel as threatened as Barca and Madrid. For how long can Bayern keep poaching the best of the Bundesliga for basement prices or even on free transfers?
For us it's another nail in the coffin.
UEFA is to blame for this. Isn't there anyway we can take this to CAS? Even if we do produce some good or great players these oil clubs will poach some of them. Player transfers and wages will again go up. Part of our demise was Bartos insecurity with regards to our players. He paid them stupid money and we are now screwed. The Liverpool Bayern model seems the most sustainable. You get good players for good prices and form a great team. Of course you need a great manager and great planning for that.

Exactly. Former Galactico teams like Barca and Madrid, especially when ran by clueless Presidents, are hurt the most.

We need to change our ways and with Laporta, we are starting to. Go more for a La Masia core + other young players bought for good prices (so not really famous superstar youngsters like Haaland and Mbappe and such), and opt for just 2-3 excellent more mature players with experience for the exposed positions.

CAS can't do anything about it. It's free market capitalism. Big fish eats the small fish. In terms of money, Barca and Madrid are a mackerel, and the oil states are the fucking Moby Dick.

Good point and I agree, Bayern should be afraid as well. They are a bit arrogant though.

Teams should have better rights for their prospects imo.

If you observe Madrid though, you don't need to spend tons of money in transfer fees and wages to attract talent. Madrid essentially obtained some of the best talent in French football for almost nothing (relative to their worth) because they've got prestige. We're lucky that all the kids that grew up with the 2008-2015 Barcelona are now in their late teens, so we will be able to attract the best talent and players if we do our scouting in France and Germany correctly without having to spend buckets in the transfer market.

Money gets you a lot of things, but it won't get you prestige. That comes with time and success.

?When you start buying Mbappe or whoever they are going to buy, you will drive up the price because wages will go up.

?And that?s the worry I have.?

Mbappe (he's probably a bad example as he'll likely become a free agent and I just don't see him going to Newcastle regardless of whatever money they would be willing to offer him) and other top players are not really that problematic imo. They would be expensive with or without Newcastle on the market. And some of them will stay untouchable. I doubt that Bayern would sell Kimmich for example even if Newcastle would throw 150m at them and Kimmich alone also wouldn't want to go there. City or PSG also won't sell their key players. What they might do is selling bench/squad players for way over their market price which leads to what I consider a much bigger problem whenever a new big rich club emerges.

Average players who should realistically cost like 20m and whose prices are already inflated to 30-40m if sold between EPL clubs will now probably cost 50-60m. And these are imo mostly players they will target in near future (next year or two). I don't see them signing current world class players already playing for big clubs immediately. They might get a few recognizable (former) stars who are either getting older and/or have fallen out of favour in their clubs and then buy talented youngsters. Some of them might not be lured to Newcastle right away though. Regardless of how much money they would get players might prefer to wait and see what sporting project they'll have. The last thing you want is signing a 5-year contract only to find out in a few months you're probably stuck in a midtable team for a forseeable future and they won't let you go to another club (like PSG). Sure, some players would just enjoy their big pay checks but others could become unsettled. Money can't always buy you happiness.

Concerns about raising wages are legit though. Newcastle will have to overpay to get most players especially if bigger/better clubs will also be in for them. At least until they would establish themselves as a regular CL team which could take them a few years at least even if they'll start to spend big money from the start. They shouldn't just spend money because they can but try to find and buy the right players for whatever system whoever their coach will be (which will be an interesting decision as well) will play and build a team, not just bring a group of supposedly good players who will never fit together. Regardless of how much money you have you can't build a good team over night by just buying 10-15 best players you can get.

What will also surely happen is agents like Raiola and Mendes using Newcastle interest (real or supposed) to drive up prices of their players and guarantee bigger commisions for themselves and higher wages for players when eventually signed for other clubs.

Yh the prestige that Newcastle don't have TBF.
Been a club less successful than City in last 100 years.
Also weather and city way shitter than any of the other large metropolitan areas in the UK, but might improve over time. Hell barely nicer than Stoke and even possibly Glasgow is nicer. Not that it'll matter to players who just want some dollar in the first place. But it won't be a luxury option compared to many other destinations.
Messi983 highlighting the other issues too.

It'll be slower and precarious. But they'll easily find players for the mid-term to get them into Europa. If likes of Leeds can buy La Ligas 7-15 placed teams rejects, so can Newcastle.

Madrid are the worst example for buying players for top dollar.

Poach them is exactly what RM and Barca have been doing for years. Now somebody else is poaching them you want to go to CAS.

I'm not talking about their transfer activity throughout the entire 2 decades as someone pointed out, I'm talking about right now. They just received one of the best French midfield talents for cheap and will receive quite literally the best French talent of this generation for free next summer, simply because both players grew up idolizing Madrid.

That's prestige. You can't buy that.

Glasgow is a good city and place to live and not somewhere footballers would sneer at being. Quite a few ex old firm players from abroad end up moving there and or staying as love it. Has a dark side to it but those footballers would rarely if ever be involved at that end.

Newcastle is perfectly fine as well and will be treated as heroes anyone that goes there.

These players do not care nearly as much about how a city is made out to be when they are being offered top wages and in teams that can win.

Leeds have been buying the better players of La Liga mid teams not rejects. Have far better resources and pull than any La Liga teams outside of top 3.
