Some interesting stats from this season:
-- Neymar played 23 matches for Barcelona this season, scoring only 9 goals
-- 2 out of 9 goals are from penalties

-- about Neymar's 7 goals from an open play, an interesting stat is that he hasn't scored a single DECISIVE goal this season (like a goal for 1:0 when he opened a scoring, or a winning goal for 2:1 in dying minutes)

His all goals from an open play this season:
Celtic 7:0, scored a goal for 3:0 in the 44th minute
Leganes 5:1, scored a goal for 3:0 in the 44th minute
Sporting Gijon 5:0, scored goals for 3:0 and 5:0 in the 81st and 88th minute when Gijon played with 10 men
Barcelona:Man City 4:0, scored a goal for 4:0 in the 89th minute
Barcelona:Eibar 4:0, scored a goal for 4:0 in the 91st minute

S:
1. he scored only 9 goals this season, 7 from an open play
2. he scored only one goal against a big team (Man City)
3. he didn't score a single decisive goal in a whole season

Interesting

yeah we all saw that he's underperforming in the last year and makes alexis sanchez look like a god at finishing chances based on his first 2 seasons at barca

I think everybody agrees that his finishing is bad so far this season.

Actually he has scored 3 penallties not 2 (also scored against Celta from the spot).
He does have 14 assists already this season, by far the most on the team.

Finishing is terrible but his performance so far in 2017 is a lot better than the start of the season. Luck is not on his side at the moment.

He`s missing composure and concentration at the moment, not luck. We all know that he has technical capabilities to be a great finisher, but he lacks that composure to shoot the ball where he wants it. Of course, the more he misses, his confidence falls, but I think he`ll bounce back at some moment.

I think that`s the problem with Penaldo too at the moment. We all know he can be a great finisher, but he is missing a lot of chances, because he is too eager to score at the moment and isn`t composed enough. I hope his problem will continue to frustrate him until he explodes and fights with Benzema or someone. :gap:

lol based on some of the comments, sounded like he had a shitty game then I watch it last night and it's like, WTF he's playing well
that off-side call was bs and he had the keeper beat + the sweet passes to Leo and Suarez & his speedy dashes and dribbles... if that's a shit performance, damn!

Vidal's crosses were sweet, Lucho's should have him starting. ney's 1st touch was dope but then he lost his balance on landing :-( I blame gravity :stoner:

i don't have time to watch a 9 min video atm but during the game he had a phase when he missed like 10 passes in a row , he made a lot of stupid decisions and at times he kept the ball too much , he also missed AGAIN a 1v1

yeah I hear u cata on the missed passes but he also had plenty of good passes + that 1v1, goalie did a good job and caught it with the tip of his foot.
Ney coulda nutmegged him or chip it up but that's hindsight. Had he flicked it more to the right and the defender would've intercepted it. Window was pretty tight.

I thought his game was decent, but his finishing, jeez. Him and Suarez really do look like pub team players with their finishing (though Suarez is still getting goals somehow, after missing sitters in every game)

He does have 14 assists already this season, by far the most on the team.

About Neymar's highest amount of assists, to some extent, you should look at this thing also:
Let's say that Messi will have 20 shots and he will score 10 goals.
Suarez will also have 20 shots and he will score 10 goals.
Neymar will have 20 shots and he will score only 4 goals.
That is somewhat similar to 15-15-5 goals from Messi, Suarez and Neymar in La liga, right?

Imagine that both Messi, Suarez and Neymar will give 20 good passes to their attacking teammates, and that each of them will try 20 shots on goal over 10 matches.
So, each out of MSN will have 20 shots on goal, and also, the same player will give 20 key passes to other 2 MSN-players.

Let's see in numbers what does it mean:
-- Messi: 20 shots, 10 goals from 20 shots
-- Messi: 10 passes to Neymar + 10 passes to Suarez
-- Neymar will score 2 goals from 10 shots, Suarez will score 5 goals from 10 shots=2+5 assists
= Messi: 10 goals (from 20 shots), 7 assists (from 10+10 key passes)

Suarez: 10 passes to Messi (5 goals), 10 passes to Neymar (2 goals)
= Suarez: 10 goals (from 20 shots), 7 assists (from 10+10 key passes, 5 assists to Messi, 2 to Neymar)

Neymar: 10 passes to Messi (5 goals), 10 passes to Suarez (5 goals)
= Neymar: 4 goals from 20 shots, 10 assists (5 to Messi, 5 to Suarez)

Goals:
1. Messi 10
2. Suarez 10
3. Neymar 4

Assists:
1. Neymar 10
2. Messi 7
3. Suarez 7

So, you see, to some extent, when you look at it this way, it is somewhat understandable why Neymar has the highest amount of assists.
= because Messi and Suarez are scoring like crazy. And you just have to pass a ball to them and they will somehow score
On the other hand, no matter how well Messi and Suarez pass to Neymar, he won't score and thus Neymar's finishing skills are ruining Messi's and Suarez' assist's numbers.

It is not as if Neymar doesn't have good passes or anything and as if he can't assist.
But his numbers are influenced a lot by his poor finishing this season, and are inflated by good finishing skills from Messi and Suarez.

That is correct. Neymar has 33% of Suarez's goals (including two pens and multiple tap ins, with only one decisive goal) even though he shoots only 15% less.

And we're talking about a sloppy Suarez.
