It's not about relevance. He'll have to win either CL or play a very good world-cup if he wants to win the BDor over Messi. If both win their league this year but no CL and WC it will be Messi > Neymar. Even then they have to be lucky to win it because a player who wins the WC or CL will have a better shot for receiving the BDor.

Messi played a great year but CR won it for 2 good months. No one cares about league success. The people who are eligible to vote watch CL-knockout and WC this year. The rest is not really relevant. Sad, but true.

We’re arguing two different things. Of course he’ll have to do something extraordinary to beat Messi to the award, but he doesn’t need to win the WC or UCL to be recognized for his brilliance. People aren’t going to ignore him because he plays in France no more than they ignored Zlatan, who earned 4th place in 13-14.
