His agent seems to kicked up a bit of a fuss and it seems a bit tedious really. He has said that he is unhappy that valencia are telling papers he wants to stay and is happy. Bit of a silly thing to kick off about but most agents are a bit odd now. I think he is forcing valencia to accept a bit lower than the release clause to prevent teams paying the 52% tax which would take the total to around 75 million which is ridiculous.

There is a way round it however in which clubs can give the players money and they pay the release clause to their current club and that money isn't taxable.

Valencia's president came out and said 50m euros(his release clause) or nothing. And he is dead serious about it. Perhaps Valencia will be nice and accept a 50m offer so you don't have to go through the player and make him pay his release clause + pay tax on top of it.

I thought if it went through the player it was untaxable? Similar to what Manchester United did with Herrera last year and Bayern with Martinez before that? Or am i getting muddled up?:lol:

Might be the other way round.

If the club doesn't accept the fee and the player has to buy out his contract, there will be taxes (Herrera and Martinez).

From my understanding for Non-Spanish clubs that's the way you'll have to pay taxes unless you find a loophole which Bayern apparently did with Javi Martinez, or agree with the selling club.

I am sure both Bayern and Man Utd paid more than the buy outs for Martinez and Herrera.

Bayern paid about 40m for Martinez and Man Utd around 37m for Herrera.

While I don't like to see Valencia getting weakened (I'd rather have them as the third pillar in La Liga than ATM), Otamendi playing together with Rojo will be good for the Argentinian national team.

Valencia will probably be able to get a good replacement for him. They're looking to become a serious competitor.

Yeah 50m for a player they paid 12m for just a year ago is a good deal.

Spanish teams always seem to find good replacement for players and can help them strengthen other areas of the team.

50m off the strength of 18 months of solid football? Did his agent make mixtapes of his tackles against Bale, CR and Messi and sent them to England?

Even if it is, it's still not worth it.

Luiz went for the same amount though, so maybe I shouldn't have been surprised

If he can carry on this years form in a different league £35 is a good price in the current market, the euro is weak, the league is flooded with money and its a position that needs it. Though personally i would keep trying with Rojo and Smalling they been pretty good for a while.
