Óscar Mingueza

He's only playing because Araujo, Pique and Roberto are missing. Shouldn't put too much weight on having to trust him in the biggest games in the future. Ideal backup though.

I completely agree. He is more than a decent backup. When Garcia arrives this summer Mingueza will be our 4th choice and he is more than OK for that. Some people need to realize that we can't have four top class CB's. It's too expensive and unnecessary. If Araujo and Garcia develop as expected (or we buy Alaba) we will be well covered even without Pique and that bum Lenglet.

No problem playing like he did versus Mbappe when you got the option of 5 subs. It was a bit Tiago Motta-ish.

But when it returns to 3 subs he is going to have to curve his rashness.

No disrespect to him but hopefully at that time Oscar won't need to start games like this.

His aggression is his strength. It can be tamed, but a player like that will always be a risk. Look at Masche and Ramos, great defenders but the headlessness shines through from time to time. All about minimizing those errors.

Exactly. This sort of aggressiveness pays a lot of dividends during matches, in terms of interceptions, recoveries, dispossessions of opposition players etc. You need this profile in the team. Lenglet, Umtiti, and even Pique are laughable at this. Soft and slow.

It isnt a strength at moment. It caused him to be taken off after half an hour last night and will cause huge issues if plays like that at CB.

Masch was a totally different player, his role was to win ball early but he read the game better than anyone else. If he is half the player Masch is he will be lucky.

Being aggressive is fine. When it makes him as rash as he is at moment it is a weakness.

Mingueza is already better than both Pique and Lenglet in what modern football requires.
Pique and Lenglet are better to win headers in the box, but that's not how you eliminate sides like PSG.
Garcia is a new Pique, good composed on the ball, without athletic abilities, aggression, and pace, all that is needed by the modern game at the top level

If Koeman keeps the 3 CBs formation next season, Araujo center, Minqueza right, Alaba left, should be for the most difficult games.
If we don't get Alaba, I would still not play Garcia in those games like yesterday. Even Firpo can cover ground better than Garcia

It's what makes him win duels currently. That and his fearlessness combined with a bit of pace. A current Mingueza without having an aggressive playing style doesn't make much of a player, not that he currently is.

We have discussed Mingueza before, and in the early pages people are saying it's good that he's brave but that it might get him in trouble.
So his aggressivity is his strength and it's rather his clumsiness, which is a result of being young, inexperienced and rash, the area that needs polishing.

It isnt clumsiness it is he is far too rash and tries to tackle anything that moves. It is a major weakness if he is to be a CB not knowing when to try and win ball and when not to.

It got him on verge of red card and subbed out after half an hour and has been evident in most of his games.

Worrying that when just been booked he still flies into that tackle minutes later. It is a lack of control and decision making. Hopefully he can get rid of that and learn when and when not it is on to win ball.

If he played like that in CB of a two it would be chaos.

Played well in the half hour but that style will come with a lot of good moments and a lot of poor ones which expose team and wont be good enough.
