I mean what should we do? Our options are:
1.) sell him next summer with just a year left on his contract for whatever we can get. If he stays fit for a whole season then maybe we can hope for around 50-60m. But then a big question is how much of that money could actually be re-invested in the team and can we really get a much better option than a healthy Dembele?
2.) don't do anything and let him play out his contract. If he somehow stays fit and turns into an important player for us we then risk losing him for nothing as in 13,5 months he can start to freely negotiate with other teams. With our luck he'd probably go to Bayern, never get injured again and turn into a new Gnabry for them.
3.) add a year or two to his contract (while he'd also need to take a big pay cut like other players whose contracts were extended did) and give us more flexibility. He can stay here as a part of the team on lower wages or we could still sell him for a good money if he stays relatively healthy and the club will decide we don't want him anymore because we'll find a better/more reliable player. Another thing to consider is he'd be also easier to sell if he'd be on lower wages more teams could afford to match.
