Paulinho

I'm getting Deja Vu with all this. Now all that is left for is Paulinho to be used as a makeshift CB.

So we want him as a backup to Busi? if what Albert Roge says is true.

Yeah I know we bitched about how Busi not having a good backup last season but I can't see how Paulinho solves that issue.

I mean let's be honest here, Paulhinho is a good player and he has been on form with Brazil lately from what I recall
But it isn't about that, it is about the context of the midfield and the player.
1-He is gonna cost us
2-He is good, but not enough to be starter here
3-We don't need depth, right now we have 9 players under first team contract who can play in midfield (Busquest/Iniesta/Rakitic/Rafinha/Gomes/Denis/Samper/Arda/Roberto) and might add Mascherano too if you want. What we need is a quality starter.
4-He is going to take a non-EU spot for us.

If Paulinho was coming for 10M with reasonable salary, and the team had problem in depth of midfield and had a European citizenship. He was going to be understandable and may be even good deal.
But he doesn't fill a need, overpriced, taking a valuable non-eu spot and has no potential.
Douglas was far worse player, but he didn't cost that much and was fairly young and played in a position of need.

Stuff like this makes you want to bang your head against the wall, and the shitty part is there's nothing we can do about it either. we are going to be stuck with a Brazilian who's turning 29 in a couple of weeks that will occupy a Non-EU spot and that brings nothing to the team that we already don't have.

Everywhere you go most people share the same opinion on Paulinho but it all falls of deaf ears to these guys who make the calls. :(

I can't remember how he did for Spurs but wasn't he quite good recently with the national team? ofcourse hes nowhere near Barca level but he must be a slight improvement over Gomes.

I guess we should just face it, we can't compete with other top clubs in the transfer window now so we are shopping in the bargain bin. did the board spend our budget on the stadium? are we paying too much in wages to old players? we are one of the biggest clubs in the world yet we can't keep up it doesn't make any sense. i hate our board as much as the next cule but i refuse to believe Barto can be THAT stupid, this is desperation stuff.

Is 40m a bargain for you?

He's 29 years old and on high wages. At least Gomes has age on his side and a super agent in Jorge Mendes who will recoup us what we paid for him.

If we sign Paulinho, we're stuck with him like we're stuck with Arda and it's got nothing to do with not being able to compete with others. It's all about pathetic leadership, management and planning.

where did i say we were paying 40m? besides 40m in todays window is nothing to the big teams yet its almost half our 'budget'.

I'm talking also about the other average players we were linked with.

and we obviously can't compete hence why we are looking at shit players like this. we've gone from chasing Verratti (rumoured we wouldn't pay more than 80mil) when players like Lukaku are going for £90m, Inter wanting £50m for Perisic. Barto is a cunt but he's not that stupid.. the money just isn't there. that cant just be put down to 'insane PL prices' because other clubs will look at that and milk the top clubs for even more money.

if Verratti became available tomorrow Madrid would gazump our bid and theres nothing we can do about it.

What does our financial situation have to do with Paulinho? Good god the acrobatics you apologists pull off is impressive sometimes.

Nothing can be said to justify a transfer this outrageously bad. If we needed an average backup for Busquets we have one in Samper. If we were really so short on money I guaran-fucking-tee you we wouldn't be spending 40m on a shit player like this. We could easily find some mid to bottom table EPL/Liga player who would cost a few million who would probably be better than Paulinho anyways.

But there probably aren't very many players like that who fit the criteria of being Brazilian friends of Neymar so I guess we're out of luck.

this forum.. apologist?! I hate the board look at my other posts smh. Also where am i justifying this transfer? I'm saying we obviously don't have the money to compete with the big boys and our average to shit targets prove that.

it seems on here if you say one thing which could be taken the wrong way you are outcast as a board apologist, ridiculous.

According to Fernando Polo(MD), we will only sign Paulinho if he's a lot cheaper than his 40 Million euro buyout clause.
