Paulinho

Different, oh yes. Useful: sometimes perfect, other times just OK. Your list of others who were less useful is true, but i would also add Mina and Digne. Paulinho was quite important depth last season, a significant acquisition would be needed to fill that gap.

Other times horrendous. You just have to watch that first leg vs Chelsea to understand that he was not a Barca playe

Been better than expected and is actually a decent player. But 50M is too good a offer to refuse. In fact anything over 35M and I’d sell.

De Jong would be a great replacement (not a like-for-like I know).

^ I agree. He is definitely good and was a great addition for us last season, but you cannot really turn down 30m let alone 50m. He is not irreplaceable, and to be honest he is not good enough to start a game.

He played well in a more advanced role like a SS in a 4-4-2.

As a RM? that was a disaster waiting to happen. He's not great with the ball but his biggest weakness without a doubt is his lack of Tactical positioning. He's very poor in that regard and putting him at RM vs Chelsea was a disaster and it left the likes of Roberto out to dry.

He wasn't a fit as a RM in possession, but I'd say he did quite well defending there. Vs. Real for instance. He's not a tactically astute player who'll defend with his brain, but exceptional physics.

Marking Willian, Kroos out of the match is his game. Besides that, great at making runs into the box. Limited skill set maybe, but extremely useful. Can give you a tactical advantage when needed.

I'd try to find a similar player if we have to sell him. Agree on the advanced role claims.

Paulinho knows his time is done, after Fellaini outshone him as the workhorse of the tournament.
Its nothing to be ashamed of, creds for knowing when its time to let go.

Or you can watch 2nd half vs. Chelsea at Nou Camp when he was subbed in showing his qualities.

Yeah, after the Messi show when playing with no pressure at 2-0 already. The man had it easy in the national team due to his friendship with Tite. Otherwise they haven't won shit with Paulinho as false 10 or whatever the fuck he's playing in that side. A waste of space for some goals that rarely have been decisive.

He's in the starting lineup due to his unique skill set. Nothing to do with friendship with Tite.

No pressure or not (no pressure in CL KO match) he marked Willian out of the match. Made us tons of problems before that.

Willian was Chelsea's best player in both legs

He is a decent player but his transfer from China to Barcelona and now back to the his old club just after one year raises more suspicions about this shady deal.

^ I do not think there is anything to be concerned about. I understand that many feel that way, but we often forget that his club did not want to sell him. We activated his clause and that is why they wanted him back. And I have heard that the impact he had was massive.

However, many might wonder why would he want to go back? I would assume because he is earning double what he used to. From 7m to 14m and he realized that the club would not rely on him that much this coming season (?)
