This transfer has nothing to do about football.
Yeah the Paulinho one for sure and probably Douglas but in the cases of Gomes, Paco, Digne and Arda its not very clear why they signed them.

Of course it is but we are talking Messi here.
"most expensive ever" is just a dumb thing to say, buying a bench player today costs more than buying someone world class couple years ago.

He's on his way to Barcelona.
Paulinho 40m - takes up an international slot so Marlon will have to go on loan
= we need a CB so we buy Inigo for 30m
thats 70m gone already without a midfield upgrade and Neymar replacement. we cant get rid of shit like Gomes or Denis because the board are too proud, Arda were stuck with also..
I guess there goes the dream of having Dembele and Coutinho
they will have around 150m left and i have a bad feeling we'll panic buy Di Maria for 60m leaving 90m for the stadium
Barto is destroying our present and future. Paulinho will be Gomes level but 30 soon so another player were stuck with
What would the Chinese club or those associated with it gain from selling Paulinho to Barca?
What difference does this transfer make to those deals in China?
A player that cost less than 15 million is sold for 40m= 25m, That can be a under-table payment from Adelte Group to get a large contract for the construction of Ocean Flower Island from Evergrande Group. Of course, Barto is using the club money instead of Adelte which he partly owns.
Any amount could be under the table really doesnt. Original fee or value doesnt matter.
Even then the one thing those chinese owners seem to have is money. More money than can use to improve their teams really so giving up one of their biggest names for that?

I think what they are trying to do here is complete this shady transfer first, fans and media will get angry then try to calm the storm with Coutinho or Dembele or both.
They probably think that if they sign Coutinho and Dembele people will forget about Paulinho quickly and the media will praise them for signing the star players.
It's the wrong tactic though in my opinion it would have been better to make the good signings first, if they are gonna do any, people will be happy and they wouldn't care much about who comes or goes after that.
