I hope the board keeps an eye on him. For me, he is an absolute top priority for the future if he wants to come. Perfect Suarez replacement and just in case Neymar keeps under performing we can sell him for 200mil to City or PSG.

That's obviously going to be a problem, but I can see us signing one of Dybala or Dembele in the future.

Well, Suarez has a big contract until he's 34. It wasn't the smartest move. I doubt he'll keep at a top level until then. This will be a problem.

I could be wrong, but Suarez is kind of competitor and I don't think he will just stay for money when he is on the bench
And even then let's hope that Chinese league is still paying big money,he is bug name player and many would love to have him their probably

I think we'd really risk losing Messi if we wouldn't renew Suarez so really not much we could do there.

No doubt about that but I don't think he'd want to go to China. He just doesn't seem as type of person that prefers money over family happiness. And his wife's family is in Barcelona so I don't see him leaving before the end of his contract. Then maybe he'll move back to Uruguay to finish his career there.

It is a possibility, though he lived most of his life outside Barcelona and he knows he can't stay here forever, let's remember he was close from joining other big clubs in 2014 and that would have closed the door on him joining Barca.
It will depend on what he thinks tbh and if it is money or competition neither will be staying on Barca bench probably.if it is family then he is gonna stay

Losing Messi? I doubt Messi would do that. He never did that for other players before. And renewing Suarez wasn't the main problem, but the high wages for a 30 year old. That's a systemic problem, even Song got those and that's why it was difficult to sell him.

Then again, look at Ibra at 35. He's doing all right. And that's a dude with a big frame! Usually, taller players wear out faster and usually can't sustain ultra long mileages.
With proper rest, careful training and lot's of TLC, both Messi & Suarez should be able to perform swimmingly well into their mid-30s. Question is, would they still want to?

They've pretty much achieved everything. The only thing keeping them there is the love of the game and the camaraderie. That's why the press should chill at times and not create such a corrosive atmosphere. Or maybe they're completely zen and see the humor in it. Fishing can wait a few more years lol :fishing:

I think Messi was never as close with any player that left us before as he's with Suarez now. Sure, he had good relationship with many of them. His first friend was Ronaldinho but that was more of a mentorship role and he was basically still a kid with nowhere near as much power than he has now inside the club when Pep decided Ronnie must leave. He had great understanding with Alves on the field but I don't think they were as close off the field because they are just different characters. His relationship with Cesc was probably the closest to what he has now with Suarez and Cesc left on his own will, so Messi was understanding that. I don't think he would have any problems if Suarez would decide to leave to China or go back to Uruguay in 3-4 years but he could be thinking about leaving if he'd thought that the board wouldn't want to keep Suarez.

Agree about high wages in general but I have no problems paying top players. It's bigger problem when you overpay for someone like Song who you mentioned. When Messi will sign a new contract until 2021-22 we'll also be aware that he probably won't deserved to be paid 35 or 40M per year at the end of his contract when he'll be 35 and will most likely decline. But what else can we do if we want to keep him? Same with Suarez. We are paying him for what he can deliver now and over the next let's say 2 seasons, then it could become troubling if he won't perform on top level anymore. It's not ideal but if you want to keep great players you have to pay them. We should absolutely improve our paying scale for 2nd, 3rd or 4th range players though if we want to stay financially stable, especially when we'll start renewing Camp Nou as well. But once you start to pay fringe players high salaries it's hard to get back because players that are brought in (or better said their agents) in most cases know how much other players in their positions before them were paid. So why would they accept less if they think they are better than players they are replacing? Of course that's not always true but they can use that argument during negotiations.

I'm impressed by how Real Madrid's wage budget is structured.

For players of similar quality or more, they pay less wages than we do lol

I wasn't against renewing Suarez, but the increase he got was too much. And he was already on high wages, and I doubt many clubs would pay more than what Barça was already paying him.
