It's also a distinction between club, as an institution, vs team, as a moment in time. People wrongly use these terms loosely, and often interchangeably without making a distinction between the two.
Madrid are the greatest club. But as far as the greatest team, none of their teams got very close to the status of Pep's Barca, since I started followng the game closely, about 20-25 years ago or so.
Barca as a club are rather dreamy, romantical, often naive. But it's this type of setup that allows them to sometimes, although rarely, hit an absolute home run. Madrid are the opposite, they don't really care how victory is achieved. A completely style-less team, but perfectly moldable and reactive. Like a chameleon. They will dominate the weak and inexperienced, and defend vs the strong and bite on the counter.
But make no mistake, at the end of the day, winning more is the most important, no matter how special your wins are.
