Their coach gets so much praise and they play terrible football. Their league position seems to be more because of Arsenal, Utd and Spurs underperforming rather than Everton being good

Tend to agree with this. Their team shape is decent and stable but their buildup is poor with the anarchic longballs. The players themselves make slow and sometimes wrong decisions (the kind that Cesc pisses people off with). The likes of Lukaku, Naismith, Mirallas, and Deulofeu are good at linking up in the final third so they'll eventually find a way through, often at the expense of poor defending.
