Nah mate, disagree with that perception. And you're using some sweeping statements like "always been a failed club", hard to agree with.
I've lived with Liverpool fans, made best friends with a number of them and know a whole lot of the rest. I agree with you in that they have done little to merit being considered a top top team recently. But honestly, it haaaaardly means their fans are delusional about it. Especially not after being a selling club ever since they lost Xabi and Torres. Nobody thought they made some significant jump after 1 EL final or even that title run with Coutinho, Gerrard and Suarez. Because they never made it in the end.
Now, they are definitely the team that is knocking on the door again. Klopp's stubbornness helps them combat that inferiority within, even despite his flaws as a coach (constant conceding from set pieces, lack of substantial bench building). But they are definitely making the correct steps to get back to where they want to be. Their mentality of showing up against big teams is a great example, they have the right attitude when their reputation is at its most visible. They do lose it straight after usually, or a few weeks after, but that's another story and other measures are used to fight that.
In any case, it's far from a sinking ship. They just need to keep on working on it and they have the right man to do that, so long as he addresses depth and leadership issues.
Disagree with what? I am not saying liverpool was always crap, but it has been crap for a long time now. By always I mean a good part of the last decade and a half.
Neymessi said:Liverpool fans are widely known for their delusion and few anecdotes from your friends don't mean much.
Neymessi said:They lost their best player in coutinho just now, had they been such a good club why do players want to leave it? Sure liverpool owners are more reluctant to let players go than they were before but the fact is that players do want to leave. And they haven't made much progress under klopp either imo.
Neymessi said:Its not a sinking ship, its a sunken ship. After how long now have they reached the knockouts in CL? How often have they made top 4 in recent years? How long does a top club need to act like a midtable club when it starts to be considered not a top club? Klopp has been here for 2.5 seasons now and what has he done? They still are fighting hard for top 4 and have only just recently entered top 4 and there is a good chance that they will not finish top 4.
Ah. Clear then. Lol. Gotta love people with hyperbole. And an incorrect one at that.
It's as good a sample of sensible supporters as any. If you base your argument on opinions of mindless people who aren't able to tell their elbow from their ass then hey, it's just as valid as stating CR is objectively the best in the world..
They have been a selling club since Xabi and Torres left, stated nothing less. To an extent they still are, but their frontline hasn't suffered as much from Coutinho's move as it did from Suarez's and they should be fine as a result. They're more reluctant and rightly so, Klopp supports the idea, they're on the right track. Coutinho's case is subtly different, because he's been there for half a decade. It's understandable he prefers a change of environment and a chance to play with Messi over backroom struggle to get the team into a shape good enough to win titles.
Sunken ship does not regularly manage to beat top 4 teams. Not sure what you're trying to achieve with derogatory relative terms. Is Sevilla a sunken ship, because they can't make top3 with a squad fairly capable of giving a game to top sides? Is Bilbao a sunken ship for failing in Europa League recently? Hardly.
Nor have I argued they weren't a midtable club. Far from a failed one like you state since their following, recently solid rebuilding and potential clearly doesn't warrant that label.
