City dominated both Liverpool and Chelsea away this season, but dropped the most points so far vs the rest of the pack.

I agree. But are they now getting into gear? To beat Villa away is tough with Gerrard there, and they left several key players behind in Manchester and still won.

Liverpool seems to have changed so much the way they play since 2018-20, when they cared not to concede and then win.
Now they go all out to outscore the opponent, and that shows in their record-breaking 'xG for' so far.
At the same time, they are more vulnerable at the back than what they were in 18-20

On the contrary, City have completed the opposite trajectory: in 2017-19 they were all about attack and outscoring opponents.
That approach hit its limit with a disappointing 2019/20 season, but since last season the tune is changed:
they first make sure the opponent does not threaten them, and then by controlling the game they hope to find some way to score a goal
That shows in their record-breaking 'xG against' number, already since last season, and continuing this season.

Usually the attacking team wins the league, and the defending team wins cups (CL).
Let's see what will happen.

But what a reversal of roles!

Liverpool were better in the second half but breathed a sigh of relief at the final whistle. City left the pitch disappointed. Silva ran rings around them. VVD was glad to go home.

Salah ran rings around them. Dias and Laporte were glad to go home

If you just look at stats, Man City and Liverpool are a level above Chelsea in terms of shots per game, possession, average position, shots faced. But the table shows they are similiar level.

Someone watching United-Arsenal?

Comical 8 minutes in midfield so far  Both teams can't string together three passes.
