Man Utd fans spent most of their existence last couple of decades talking about them surpassing Liverpool's league record and now they're staring at them falling behind again.

All while they keep finding new ways to fall further down.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer set of fans.

A deluded few on Redcafe still think of United as the biggest club in the world

You should read some of the old Messi posts on Redcafe. It's comedy gold with hindsight. Here's one:

@soul24rage

Thanks. A fascinating read. Here's some classics I unearthed, from December 2005, when Messi was already 18:

"saw him in the youth championship.
pure class. imo not the next maradona....but he IS very good.
I think Rooney is better though...."

"Sooo predictable: Never seen the kid go right"

"Said it once, and will say it again. Likes too much time with the ball and would be killed if he wasn't in Spain.

Only gets the time and space to do his thing because defenders are too busy watching Ronaldinho in Barca. If he ever moved to England people will immediately realize him for the showpony that he is."

Just goes to show that it's very hard to know what Yamal will or won't be. I'm happy to just enjoy what he is.

Messi as a showpony is a wild take, even for Yanited fans
The CAF is great entertainment tbf.

"Grealish is the modern day Ronaldinho" is another one of their classics.

Teenage Rooney was actually crazy though. I remember he was rated higher than young Ronaldo and right alongside teenage Messi back in 2005.

Officially the biggest club in England now.

Even though the rags have more fans worldwide.

There is no statistic that actually backs up Yanked having this massive worldwide following in the modern age (sure they might have in the 00s before the Messi/CR7 era at Barca/RM).

In terms of all the social media followings, Barca and RM are WAY ahead of Yanited. And I think Barca may be the top overall by just a little bit.

Remember many big high-reputation websites like ESPN and Forbes saying they are the biggest and most supported club itw few years back.

In the 2000s they benefitted a lot from Beckham and Ronaldo, who were the biggest global superstars of their generation.

According to Perez, Beckham tripled Madrid's revenue overnight.

This was last summer. My guess is after Barca's phenomenal season with Yamal and co., Barca and RM are probably neck and neck.

And way ahead of Yanited (although these bums are still hanging onto 3rd place while being garbage for 12 years).

They were definitely the most followed in 00s.
