In my defense, I'm the last person to underestimate Barca's opponent, whatever the stature. My prediction was hugely influenced by Bertus' downplaying his team's chances, and of those who had followed PSG this season. But I'm glad they put up a worthy fight, and exposed our otherwise paper-patched up weaknesses. Unlike the overly-optimistic treble clan, I take no pleasure in the blow-outs of LL minnows, nor is it in anyway conclusive of our level of play. So, I'm every bit skeptic in Europe, regardless of how it may appear, form wise.
Congratulations to Bertus, my beloved french teacher. You deserve this result after weeks of disappointment. You should be proud of your team, for overcoming adversity (in injuries to key players, poor form, media criticism, etc), and taking down a difficult adversary (even if a l'il overrated ), and you did so with gusto.
I actually think missing some of the Key players worked in your favor. It galvanized them in to a more collective effort.
Lavezzi's unreliable headless chicken play ((for the most part) was never a miss to begin with. Zlatan, as great as he is, brings a more "dependant" factor with him, and I don't know if PSG's game would 've flowed as fluent with him in the side. Missing Thiago also gave the young and exhuberant Marcos to prove a point, and he didn't disappoint. So, considering everything, these injuries proved a boon in the end.
My only consolation from the game was Pastore's performance. That was some flamboyance right there. I hope he can bring the same for the sky blue, not holding my breath, however.
And thanks to Cavani, for being so shiiiite on the night. Or is the Napoli's Cavani, a thing of the past? He averted a humiliating score-line for Barca.
Last but not the least, I hope your season kick-starts from hereon (even if you don't rate your manager, me neither). And the return leg manages to offer similar thrills and chills to the neutral.
My prediction for the return leg: Barca 0-7 PSG
I am not as enthusiastic as you, really. Beside that I am absolutely not happy that Blanc saved his head last night and that I fear we will lose the league to marseille because of it, I will list things that are no good, and that were still no good last night :
- Blanc still never has any Plan B. If things turned bad last night, he would not have tried anything.
- PSG subs made no sense again. To the point that Blanc had a very rude argument with his assistant-coach Gasset. He did let cavani on the pitch while he was a walking corpse and subbed Verratti and Pastore that still had some juice left.
- Cavani is a catastrophe beside a bit of defending. It's like he doesn't know how to shoot on target anymore.
- Many players choose when they want to play and it's due to very bad management. Pastore never plays like that in the French League. At the end of the day, it's the coach's fault when players are only motivated for 1 game out of 9.
- Sirigu is an average GK.
- DL is no good in the long run. Yeah sure he did well last night but he left his CB position so many times that no one can say it's a good thing in the long run.
- Marquinhos is too good, and when TS will be back it will cause severe problems because Marquinhos is as good as them so far this season if not better. While it's a very good thing, I am not confident at all that Blanc will manage those three well enough to not cause any tension.
- Since Blanc is no good as far as human management is concerned, you can be sure that PSG will continue to be shitty in the French League.
- Nasser is becoming a retard since last summer. What he does, what he says, it's like he doesn't understand football anymore.
Could list even more things that are no good.
Anyways, on a side note, I'm sorry to not have given any news for quite some time now. I'm very busy IRL at the moment. I'll try to contact you soon with more stuffs. Till then, take care
