Lol, you're reaching for those grapes my man.

I guess RM didn't go from 93 points in Lucho's last year to 76 points and then 68 points in EV's years?

You're out here painting the picture as if Valverde was the active hand keeping Barca afloat against all odds, in the face of impending doom. Like some kind of martyr, lmfao.

The truth is he oversaw much of the growing toxicity and dysfunction that exists in the squad now. Performance over time under him declined in almost a linear trajectory. Worse and worse over each passing season, increasingly complacent, fewer training sessions, bigger Amigos influence. As the problems grew and become more glaring in every game, Valverde would just say "it is what it is" and that he didn't give a shit about physical preparation, having fewer and fewer training sessions.

This was all culminated in 2 massive European humiliations, if you recall. Valverde didn't keep us from a decline, he oversaw much of that decline and fostered MANY of the horrible circumstances we've found ourselves in.

Our mistake was not firing him sooner, and getting a better new manager who could reasonably try to reboot the project over a summer. Instead we took the half measure and waited until midseason to fire him and replaced him with a guy who was hanging out with his cows and his only other options were coaching in the Saudi/Qatari leagues.

Brilliant. Truth.

Shitverde indulged these players in an extraordinary way.

To be factually correct, we are still, mathematically speaking, a bit better with Setien than with Valverde, and back then we weren't playing every 3 days.
So, arguably, mid season arrival, guy hanging out with his cows that cannot hold the dressing room together, is still better than master tactical genius EV.

Should get Maradona to manage these amigos. If anything, just to prove that being the best footballer ever means jacksh*t when it comes to being a manager.

-Setien is on pace for 81 points over a full season with Messi available for every match.
-Lost La Liga
-Out in the Copa del Rey QFs
-Out in the CL R16?

-Valverde was on pace for 80 points over all full season while missing Messi for two months.
-Was sacked while the club was sitting atop of the La Liga table and won the competition the two years prior while averaging 90 points
-Made the Copa final the previous two seasons and won one of them
-CL QF and SF appearances

Yeah, Setien is clearly better.

Yeah, Setien is clearly better.

Setien had to take a team with fitness issues (fault of Valverde) midseason. This team was in terrible shape.

Don't see how these are comparable. Not to mention, Setien didn't sign any of these guys or maybe they are not good for his system.

Fitness issues under EV are a valid concern, but considering the age of our core players and the amount of power the have in the dressing room I very much doubt they would have been willing to do more training work under any coach.

Setien did not have a transfer window, but most managers under this board don't get much input into signings. Valverde wanted Inigo Martinez, Willian, Parejo, Rodrigo etc. and did not get a single one of them in. Instead the board forced on him players like Dembele, Coutinho, Arthur, Griezmann, Malcom, Firpo, Mina etc.

It doesn't matter which one is better. Neither is good enough for Barcelona, and both are Bilbao, Valencia, Betis, Sociedad level. Doubt any of them will ever get a job at a club in the same league with Barcelona in the future.

Looking at the games and stats the team isn't any worse than with Valverde 2019/20 so there's that. Let's not forget the state the team was in when Valverde got sacked, so it was worth a shot. I don't think the situation would be any better now if they had kept Valverde.

Maybe this at least shows them there are big problems beyond the coach but this board actually cleaning house is probably just wishful thinking anyway.

It's a vicious circle. Top managers don't come to teams where they are not allowed to do their job, and this is the image of Barcelona right now. So, you're basically limiting yourself in terms of the quality of managers you can attract.

Also, I very much doubt that the board wants someone to rock the boat and put the veterans in their place. They are not committed to rebuilding the team, not in the slightest.

Well deserved misery. His appointment was pure arrogance on all levels.

"Hey, look at us, we don't care about being top of the table for 3 seasons in a row, ANYONE can win La Liga with Messi. We show no consideration to the aging squad situation and misfitting or perma injured players that the board keeps buying without talking to the coaches. Why u no win CL? We have top 3 squad in the world, only manager is holding us back."

What happened to that? Went from that to "next season is Madrid's as well" and total implosion with players speaking out against Setien left and right in less than 20 games.

Club is done at this point. Dream on about rebuilding. Club was financially running on fumes and borrowing money for transfers well before Covid. Now Covid killed at least 20 % of Barca's total revenues (matchday income). Even in a healthy financial position replacing Messi, Suarez, Pique, Busquets, Alba, Rakitic etc. was going to be tough, now it's going to be impossible. Getting 30 year old Pjanic to balance the books tells you all you need to now about Barca's financial troubles.

AC Milan 2.0 at this point.
