He had a minor injury and the training squad didn't want to risk him on friendly matches. Disappointing but hey, it's football.
Injuries just before pre-season are always a little suspicious. If true that's a big shame for him. It will make it much harder to break into the team.

Liking the rafinha rumours. Liverpool willing to pay 30-40 mil, Arsenal and Totenham also interested. (MD) He's just to injury prone.

Can Alena not replace him when needed considered that Rafinha is not a starter? We need to focus more on what we have then throwing insane numbers and wages to players that not enrich full potential. Gomes, Arda, etc

Ok, I would be honest here and say I can't get you
We have very deep midfield here, you want Arda,Gomes to stay and get their chances and probably you know Iniesta,Roberto,Rakitic & Denis are staying. Yet you want someone to come to replace Rafinha.
Our midfield is way too crowded with players, and even the fact that some of them will be used from time to time as back ups for attack doesn't change that considering it is fair that Gerard and Paco will get most of those minutes. That isn't counting a potential signing for midfield
I am huge fan of Rafinha, but if he leaves we already have his replacement in Denis. Same with Arda.

Rafinha, Arda and arguably Gomes should all be sold. Although okay, I get the need second season thing even though we got rid of other players after their first seasons.
But both two need to leave. We cannot even justify signing a midfielder without getting rid of at least 2-3 of them.

It's time we let some players go, and Rafinha is one of the most obvious candidates for that. Next should be Arda, Vermaelen, Munir and then Rakitic/Gomes perhaps (not considering Neymar). That should give us a decent amount of cash, although that will probably be used to buy Yoshi Benayoun and Adebayor, sadly..

Gomes will not be sold obviously. Sell Rafinha and Arda. One is a huge waste of wages and other is very injury prone. We have too many midfielders anyway. Denis Roberto Rakitic Iniesta Gomes Alena Samper Busi Arda Rafinha. Damn too many. Even if we take out Alena and Samper that is still 8 players for 3 positions. Quantity but no quality. Sell Arda and Rafinha.

Rafinha rarely got injured before that tackle he had two years ago and made him miss most of the 15/16 season, then he had few injuries last year. It is really not fair to consider him an injury prone player atm. Specially when many here thought that Gundogan should be called unlucky rather than injury prone.
Anyway, I think it depends on the offer we get for him, we won't get rid of him as he is actually a very useful player, probably was our best bench player in midfield/defense set up last season and one of those who wil do any role he is told to do. But a good offer for him then he should leave. It is world cup year and if he became a starter somewhere he could have a chance to make io the WC. And he will open a roster space for an already crowded midfield.

I like rafinha much more than denis suarez, it's a shame neither are working out though.

1) iniesta, rakitic, sergio busq.
2) denis suarez, rafinha, gomes, turan, sergi roberto
3) samper, alena,
we need to sell and or loan minimum of 3. and have alena play for B team as 4th backup
