I used to like Salgado a lot back in the days.. but this is way too much and more importantly it's actually on ESPN soccernet

Salgado joins 'Historic Club'
For those of us lucky enough to follow the other 16 sides in the division, Champions League Tuesday, or Wednesday, or whatever day, can become as interesting as listening to the constant 'Will he?' Won't he?' saga of Jolean Lescott. Clive Tyldseley and David Pleat can quickly become white noise. Indeed there are occasions in the midweek where I am more inclined to look at the latest scores from the Leyland Daf Trophy Northern Section or whatever its title is at the momment.
Because it seems we see the continental stars and teams so frequently playing the 'Big 4' in the Champs League these days, there is a tendency to become apathetic about them as opposed to the old European Cup which seemed to capture our imagination and the players playing in it. They were like reclusive rock stars who to us listening on the a crackly medium wave radio, only made an appearance every 4 years in a World Cup. Names like Rossi and Platini and teams like Dukla Prague and Grasshoppers of Zurich captured our imagination.
One player who is an exception to the rule in the modern times is Michel Salgado. I've always believed him to be a star and big name at Madrid and an excellent fullback. It's clear what the club and supporters make of him by giving him a testimonial. I am delighted Rovers have signed him, it's classic Allardyce. Not just for what he will bring to the pitch but what he will bring off it. It will boost the profile of the club and may encourage others to follow. Indeed Salgado (or his PR machine) have done their homework well and called us an 'historic club.'
But where do we play him? I was mightily impressed with Jacobsen on Saturday at full-back and I don't think the defence will create the talking points this season. Maybe Sam has other ideas and put him further forward to add extra bite and options in the midfield. Whatever he does, Saturday at Sunderland is already looking important. Incredibly still no draws in the Prem League this season. It's an American footballing dream!
Meanwhile, I've just woken from a restless snooze where I had recurring images of Burnley beating United. It's amazing what tricks the mind can play when you are in a deep sleep .

Really man, is there a limit to the ignorance of some EPL fans when it comes to that rubbish continent called Europe and European football ? and this appearing on Soccernet .. !!!
