Quite worrying for me the lack of plan B from Manu yesterday and the decisions he made.
i was thinking about what he could done differently and at the same time i couldn't help to remember Manuel teams always start crap and finish strong one of the reasons i always fancied our chances in the CL than la liga with him.
the defeat in itself is not an issue since it's normal to lose to top teams in the liga especially away from home (add to that Seville is on top form lately with back to back wins since their first defeat to Valencia ) but it's the manner of how Manuel reacted to what appeared to be lack of support from the midfield to our full backs.
I can't question the 4-2-2-2 nor the 4-3-3 but IMHO and i'm not a manager but an addicted observer a 4-2-3-1 could have faired better against Seville's 4-4-2 for what i mentioned yesterday regarding 2 players on each side to help in defense and overlap in attack against Seville strongest weapon .
I would have played like this
Ramos-------Pepe--------Albiol---------Marcelo
-------------Diarra--------Xabi---------------
Higuain--------------Kaka-----------------Granero
---------------------Benzema---------------
with defeats u can know your strength and weakness and the way Seville play is very similar to some of the EPL teams we could meet in the Champions league , ironically 2 of the shortest players scored from headers which shows more a lack of positioning awareness for the team in set pieces than lack of ability to defend high crosses
I don't want to cry and say Robben would've been handy in case of CR injury but i would definitely say Manuel Pellegerini contributed to over 60 % of the defeat with his decisions before/throughout the game.
some players form are questionable , they seemed to lack this fighting spirit and played a carefree game (Ramos-Xabi Alonso-Guti ) , others caught out in no-mans land and their team performance or rather lack of support didn't help them (Kaka-Marcelo-Benzema ) .
we need to analyze the game and adjust our performance and tactical approach , it's a chance to fix the team with almost 2 weeks of International break Pellegerini has the the time to try different alternatives . the biggest problem we could face is depend on one player to win games and that's a dangerous approach as we can face teams who have the defenders or DM's to cancel out Kaka & CR (same way we saw with Xavi vs Almeria ) and when that happen it's others who should rise up to the occasion and snatch a win.
on a positive note the return of Mamadou Diarra is a big plus , i expected a poor performance after a long lay off not a MOM performance from the Malian giant . i liked Pepe & Albiol ability to handle ground attacks and Higuain energy in the second half.
Metzelder is /was an excellent option facing a team crossing a lot
on a negative note don't try Kaka again as a RW he was non existent , Xabi need a kick in the butt i know he is adjusting to a different setup but unless we are switching to Spain or Liverpool 4 /5 man midfield Xabi needs to tough up and play at least to his potential .
Benzema is what i expect him to be inconsistent and need to rise up to big games , i don't remember him touching anything apart from one header , he was even too slow for Seville defense .given i know Escude & Squillaci know how to stop him from Ligue 1 but still the Frenchman need to shape up and stop sulking till then i'd play Higuain all the tough games and Benzema all the small games to gain confidence and form .
Granero need to forget the past incident and concentrate on the pitch a little more , there is a long way to go for this team to gel well and till than we should keep on winning games and work on our weakness and plan B .
Reports this morning saying that Manu and Perez had a massive argument after te game and he is not taking training today.
Love the fact that you are making things up these day
anyhow if that fictional story was true i would definitely say i wouldn't blame him.. he did so many wrong things last night but since i know what' goes on inside i know Valdano will approach Pellegerini not Perez
