does he? I feel like Alba doesnt do particularly well in this type of circumstances.. And I don't think his passing is better either. Alba is just fast, imo there just isn't a whole lot else going on.

I think he is.
He can play those diagonals cross/through-ball that open up defenses.
Actually the cut-back to Messi limits him, he can do better things when Messi is not close to the box to cut it to him.

Does not mean he is good in big games for the reasons mentioned above (mentality mainly, but also lack of proper defense/pressing)

If would rather have his teammate Joakim Maehle.

He would be cheaper and is only 24.

Been one the best Danish players at the Euros. Played a good season for Atalanta too.

Doesn't he mostly play RWB/RM for Atalanta?

Also, they've just bought him in January, doubt they'd sell already.

He plays LWB for Denmark. RWB for Atalanta. Very versatile as find as I read.

But yeah, probably won?t sell him right now.

Can't really call it a trend, but lately Dest, Maehle and of course Spinazzola have been getting attention as right footed LB's.

Yeah, but there is a difference between buying Dest to be your RB and then find out he's also quite useful playing on the left and signing Maehle who has played 90% of his games for Atalanta and previously Genk on the right and hope he'll turn out good as a LWB just because he's doing well there for Denmark. NT football is different as teams are more limited with their player selection than clubs who can buy anyone they can afford. Denmark have Wass who is a solid RB so they're playing Maehle as a LB as he's better than their alternative there.

Now obviously if we wouldn't already have Emerson (who deserves a chance) and Dest (alongside Roberto who might stay as well for another season for all we know) and if at the same time we wouldn't look for someone who would be immediate competition for Alba and could potentially replace him longterm then I wouldn't mind buying Maehle as a versatile backup RB/LB if affordable for a good price but in current situation signing him wouldn't make much sense imo. And this has nothing to do with Maehle personally who I actually quite like as a player.

Spinazzola is a different story though as he has played a lot of games for Roma as a LB/LM so a club trying to buy him to play the same positon would have a much bigger sample size than just a few NT games.

Better than Emerson.

Just scored his 2nd goal in the Euros.

Playing brilliantly.
I doubt that but I haven?t seen enough from Emerson to really rate him.
But Emerson being good or not has nothing to do with Maehle not being good enough for Barcelona.

Disagree with you then. Maehle has been perhaps the best back at the Euros. He has been a constant danger with his dribbles (2nd in dribbles only to Mbappe), two pre assists yesterday (one of them splitting the lines), interplay, scoring and most impressively never getting tired.

We needed a RB last summer and no one mentioned Maehle.

Why? He was already 23.

He really needed this past season at Atalanta even though he was quality in Belgium. Also the past year playing for Denmark has also developed him further.

Another year or two under Gasperini, and he could be very much in demand. He will likely be expensive after the World Cup in 2022.
