I have to guess that Journalist from Marca assumes we are shelling out the 32 million for him to be a starter because he thinks Valverde wasn't impressed with Umtiti,Marlon and Verm and not really based on fact.

How I think Valverde sees things.

Marlon-good chance he thinks he's not ready yet to be the fourth CB and could send him out on loan for a season

Verm-To injury prone to be fully relied on to be the 4th CB, which has been a theme since he was here and he might leave this summer.

I wouldn't be surprised if Valverde wants to avoid a situation if Umtiti and Mascherano/Pique were suddenly injured out of nowhere and he wants to avoid playing a raw CB like Marlon in bigger games. Still a lot of money for a CB like Martinez though.

Fuck me. If Valverde really thinks Inigo is better then Umtiti then I'm truly stunned.

Umtiti was excellent in his first season and compliments Pique well. He is great in the air, good tackler and is an excellent passer of the ball. His positioning could improve but that will happen with time.

Umtiti is not going to settle for the bench and other clubs will snap him up if they sense he's not happy.

Inigo should be back up and nothing more. He is certainly not as good as Umtiti.

Is Inigo needed? No. Masche is still better than him and Yerry Mina is supposed to join in January for 9m euros. Splashing 32m euros for an average player like Inigo is silly. Just when we thought the CB madness transfers had come to an end we keep on doing it.
