Samuel Umtiti

Just because last week he said in the press conference that Umtiti will be reintegrated very slowly...

Just another proof that players are more powerful than Valverde.

Umtiti wants to play -> immediately gets 90 against Sevilla, despite us having two other CB's if we wanted to rest Lenglet.

This guy is our coach...

Just throw a guy, who was injured for a long time, in a tough away game and see if he gets re-injured again, despite having 2 other CB's.

FFS.

Hmmm, is it me or he was talking about it being risky for the team not Umtiti himself?

It was risky in all aspects. For him to get reinjured or for the team to suffer, becuase he is rusty.

All in all, a very stupid decision.

I don't think it was medically risk at all tbh, there is almost no evidence on that. was already on the bench the game before too.
I doubt EV has the power to overrule the medical stuff, not with a case like Umtiti at least with the board itself involved. If medical stuff told him he is ready to start then there is zero blame on EV, and I think it is fair assumption to say they did.

Regarding being a risk for the team, which he acknowledged; we had to play Lyon,Sevilla, RM, RM, then week off then Rayo before Lyon 2nd leg. with Catalan club before the Rayo game.
I don't see what other game we should have integrated Umtiti? we would have had to wait 2 weeks for him to play a meaningful game if he sit in Seville game. Don't know man but I think the decision given circumstances was logical

Agreed. He needs some playing time if he is going to be game ready for the CL for instance. I expect him to start the weekend too. But I like Lenglet for the copa, then more or less alternate them--if Umtiti gets to 95% his world cup form he should start again in the CL, anything less, biggest matches to Lenglet.

Provided that he somehow will be 100% fully fit for the reminder of the season and him slowly regaining match form, would/should he get a starting spot next to Piqué in the clutch part of the season? Say a possible CL quarter-finals return leg or a CL semifinals game should Lenglet be ready as well and continue his current form?

A good dilemma to have IMO.

In any case the whole situation about his injury, his absence, zero communication from the club and him, the rumors about him not wanting to undergo an operation while the club wanted him to have said operation etc. Bit of a mess, really.
