I could see us think about the possibility of selling him. We are after De Ligt, not because we need a CB but because we don't want to miss out on him as a Pique successor. But then we have 4 CBs that all want to play.
And if it's between Umtiti and Lenglet we would most likely sell Umtiti first because of health concerns and higher salary.
Problem with this is that De Ligt + Pique doesn't look like the best duo, so we would only have one agile/faster CB left with Lenglet for now. We also have Todibo but i didn't see much of him so idk if he could take that spot.
I don't necessarily think we'll sell him, but i guess it makes sense to think about it if a good offer comes in. But 50M doesn't sound that fantastic.
It makes sense, but the numbers figured in media dont. 60m is the highest i have read, and thats just too low all considered. Well, we dont actually know the extend of his knee problems, but lets take this factor out of the equation for now.
Another thing is that Lenglet may be just as good a player as Umiti when playing alongside Pique, but I still have my doubts if he would perform as well with a young de ligt at his side. Umtiti as a player who just like pique brings x-factor, much needed wildness and good ball-movement up the field and low killers passes to midfield and attack, and can open a whole match, Lenglet doesnt have any of that besides some few high long balls which i personally dont rate highly. Also he is a strong duel player, and before injury i think he was also pacier. He is special. Lenglet is however a safe player, not a special talent, a type like him can be just as good as Umtiti as you can see this season, but thats only if the circumstances do suit him, if they dont, he will still bring good performances, but he will never be a decive factor, never be a player who will turn matches around - on neither side of the pitch. I do rate Lenglet highly nevertheless but Umtiti is a gem and a player who every big club needs, Lenglet is a fill-in player. To come back to the de ligt partnership, there is no doubt in my mind that Umtiti could match up with any player including de ligt, because he will bring it all, while the other defender can do the basic stuff.
I actually think that Umtiti and Lenget also would make a good duo besides both of them being lefties, so question is if one or the other could get accustomed to playing on the right.
But yes, even if Umtiti would be a injury-prone player in future, i would still prefer him here than lets say 50m. Because that means he would be all-right being 3rd choice behind De ligt and lenglet, and we would have three wc-cbs.
We dont know how Lenglet will match up with de Ligt - but we do more or less know that Umtiti will be good with any defender at his side. Lenglet is for me a player who plays it safe, positions himself well but doesnt bring anything extraordinary
