I feel like he is already a starter for the most part. Lucho has been mostly rotating Pique and Masche more than Umtiti for awhile now and even going as far as pairing Umtiti with Mathieu despite both being Left footed.
I guess you can say he's playing both the Mascherano and Mathieu roles now. He's playing in some tough games that Mascherano would've started last couple of seasons while also playing a lot in games Mathieu would feature the last couple of seasons as well.
