It's kinda funny. I was thinking "it's over, they can't possibly renew this guy again" back as early as 2016-2017. I for sure thought the club was done with him after 2020. But man...we're in 2022 and we're still dreading a potential renewal. The club's attachment to Busquets is pathological.

Meeting of a few things I would guess.

Xavi rates him, Bsquets ego to think can still play at this level... and third is probably that the club can try to defer some of his already deferred salary further if he renews and doesnt have pay by end of contract.

Kicking can down the road.

Still think he will end up leaving, but if Xavi is this clueless and want to retain both Busquets and Sergi Roberto then sure go ahead. His managerial career will end up in tears and he'll return to Doha most likely.

Real punt Casimero at 31 and sign Endrick.

Next summer... Barca trying their darn hardest to renew Busquets and Roberto.

Couldnt make it up.

This has to be for in part financial reasons and delaying deferred payments for both.. just kicking can down road and adding to financial hits in future as have done with levers if that is the case.
