Sergio Busquets

Yes he used to be on Xavi/Iniesta level but this season he's been nowhere close. I used to think that physicality isn't really a part of his game so his decline would be really slow but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Unpopular opinion but having Kante at his position would be amazing

But you are comparing... You said Rakitic was more present in defense which was clearly not the case.

And no, Busquets wasn't bad last night and hasn't been bad. Coutinho, Denis and Busquets were the standout performers last night. To make matters worse for your argument he has been playing in system tailored to Rakitic all season and yet has been statistically better as well as better on the ball.

Are you Busi's agent, bro? Because you sound like chairman of the fan club.

No. I actually watch the games with a keen eye. There is not one player on the Barça squad that has made more tackles than him and there is only one that has made more interceptions (Alba).

When Busquets wasn’t available or when he lacked fitness we struggled a lot and yet there are those who would have us believe that Rakitic has been the better player... There are also those who would have us believe that he is declining when nothing could be further from the truth. Statistically he is operating at 14/15 and 15/16 levels playing in a system not geared to his strengths.

He has been the link between this whack midfield and Messi all season long too. His key passes have doubled over last year and is better than 14/15 and 15/16.

One of his principle roles within the team is to intercept and break up play, so you'd expect that. But he does need legs around him these days as his recovery runs are not so great. I fully support him, though, and hope he'll play for many more years. However, I feel if he is indeed asking for a pay hike that it is unjustified right now.

Personally I still fully support Busquets, and believe we'd be a lot worse off without him, but I have noticed even in a 433 he gets dragged out of position a lot more than he used and is unable to recover. Whether that's because he's got used to playing 442, or whether he's trying to make up for the fact we're really poor out of possession these days, and rarely press, I don't know, but I'm of the opinion he should stay pretty much directly in front of the defence at all times, let those further forward press, and be the link from defence to mid, the dictator of tempo, etc.

Says Busi would like to have a better deal but the club thinks it's not the time to discuss it and PSG and City are interested in him.

Call his bluff.

He's 30. Just signed a new contract. Earns a lot of money, 3rd/4th highest paid in the team.

Club need to take a stand sooner or later. They've let too many players extort them into massive deals. Cannot let this spiral completely out of control.

He also has a 200 Million euro release clause as well.

I mean it's Sergio no one can doubt him but I can't see even PSG or City spending 200 Million on him alone and he's 30 years old.

Everybody needs their teammates not just Busquets. Using the last game as a barometer for his recovery runs is also not fair because we were chasing a game big time and as such had to commit many bodies forward. Including Pique.

That's because we do not have proper wingers or we have Coutinho playing on the right looking to get centrally. Iniesta (or Coutinho when playing in midfield) has to compensate for Suarez drifting centrally by playing wider than they should. And it's the opposite on the right flank. In a perfect world Busquets would only ever patrol the centre circle and the space behind it - the cruyffian way - but playing players out of position drags him around.

People lose their shit if someone says that a barca legend isn't that great now. But sorry guys busi is just average these days and he has been for a very long time now and his decline is pretty visible.

Thing is he isn't anywhere close to the biggest problems we have currently so he can't be criticised too much. Suarez and raki are much much worse and need to be shipped ASAP but you are deluding yourself if you are thinking busi is still amazing and that he is one of the players we can boast about.

Cat Radio says Barto Promised Busi a couple of seasons ago that if a new player was brought in that has a higher salary than he does he will get better wages.

And that Busi required this for his contract extension.

We got the worst board out of all top teams.

This shit is unbelievable.

Sorry, but no. If he'll walk because of money then let him walk. Same with Umtiti. Busquets is on a very good deal. Umtiti will be offered a very good deal and is young, And can negotiate a better salary in 2-3 years with good performances.

If they threaten to leave because of a few extra millions then so be it. If you leave Barça for an inferior team for money your heart never was in the right place, especially when the club is already paying you or offering you more than other players get in their teams.
