Busquets style suites peak Barca and that is him at his best which he is long past.

His flaws are further exposed being in an old, leggy team.

Busquets, Suarez etc could still be decent in teams built to protect them with younger legs around them but put them in a team where Pique lacks pace, Busquets lacks pace, Mess doesnt defend, Suarez lacks pace and doesnt defend and it is all too much.

Busquets still play DM as if he is in Peps team and has not adapted. Every game he tries risky passes in midfield and gives away dangerous chances while he also tries to close down players rather than drop and protect already slow defence.

Well past his best, further exposed in old/slow team and playing DM exactly same as did under Pep bar improving his longer passing a bit.

Spot on. That's why he doesn't work with us anymore. He could be good still for City because everyone else has movement. Barca no.

The truth is most of our amigos are still very good players and would do well in different situation.

Think of Xavi last season, he was on decline for 2 years but still was useful as a bench player.

Pique is still our best defender, if we had a quick CB partner and midfield that protect defense he would still look world class.
Alba was world class last season with exception of few -important- games. He is still good in making those runs in that open space.

Busquets would be good in a role of controlling the tempo, probably with 2 midfielders that have more workrate.

Rakitic showed he still have it when rested, him and Vidal fit the bill as rotation players.

Suarez would be perfect back up as a Larsson type of role.

But those are 6 players (and add Messi to the mix) that currently have many limitations that we need to accommodate. Impossible to build a functioning squad with them, especially with their wages and status in the team.

Regarding Busquets himself, he lost speed just like and aging player, sure he wasn't fast enough but losing speed/aging is about losing ability to do what you want. Busquets timing and positioning was his biggest strength, more than his passing. He was always at right place at right time. When he lost speed he is no more able to do what he wants and his timing is off.

He isn't a CM, and never was, and as a DM he doesn't provide any protection for midfield. This makes him more of a liability than a strength.

Busi can still be a good useful sub and mentor towards the younger guys like De Jong.

But I think we bascially sqeezed just about everything you can get out of him as a starter. His lack of Moblity/speed are just killing him now and the team and when you have a slow CB pairing that is a complete disaster. Every time we get countered you have to wince because they blow past him like he's a statue.

Not just age that is hurting him but Football itself has evolved quite a bit since he debut and Gone are the days are pure destroyers as a pivots, and Clubs are either developing or buying DM's who are not only strong Athletic/Physical wise But also gifted on the ball, it's like killing two birds with one stone.

Busi himself is a genius and I always considered him a super computer at his peak of his powers even though he wasn't the most athletic player out there. The Successor to him of course won't be anywhere near as good as he was but still at some point the fans/board have to accept the fact we don't need a Busi like clone as a successor.

Right now De Jong is still my number 1 option as his sucessor until proven other wise.

Yeah it feels like one of those stats someone put up to prove "SEE BUSI STILL HAS IT!"

Even though you can clearly see how much worse he's gotten off the ball when you watch games.

That graph doesn’t show when he loses possession or passes the ball to the other team and has zero speed to recover from his mistake.

Was good 5+ years ago. Now a turtle who is a liability.

Rather Busi than Raki. Raki will never survive the pressure Bayern will give us.

I think we have to go: Busi-DeJong-Roberto and then Vidal as a super sub later.

Maybe four midfield with Puig too, if Griez is on the bench.
